The Braid Leader Knot

Has anyone had any experience with this knot as regards its reliability, knot strength and overall breaking strain ?

I have tried various braid to mono knots ie the Albright, the Improved Albright, the Slim Beauty and the FG know but am always on the lookout for something new. I spotted this in Geoff Wilsons book and it looks the goods. It took me a half dozen knots to get the process down pat but now I understand it I can tie it pretty quickly.

Here it is tied in a double of 65lb braid to 100lb mono. I appreciate any feedback on its performance.

cheers

Its called the yucatan knot

Its called the yucatan knot as I know it, I use it when I cant be bothered with the gt as it is extremely fast to tie. I have had it slip but so i either ball the end of the mono with a lighter or dont cut the leader too short if you get what I mean as the braid only loops around 1 bit of line. In saying that the gt doesnt take much longer to tie and I have found it more reliable.

I still prefer the pr knot

I still prefer the pr knot over the bimini/gt but when the weather is rough the faster the knot the better for me as I cant take looking down in a boat lol.

Yeah Cruise Control, I used

Yeah Cruise Control, I used it a few years ago. OK knot but quite large so no good to cast with and easy to get wrong and result in low breaking strength.

I changed to the FG knot, much stronger and much smaller going through the guides. Even a GT knot is better if you dont want to do the FG.

It looks like the Yucatan. I

It looks like the Yucatan. I use it and love it. If you put enough turns and clinch the knot it does not slip. It's also very sting and I believe quite a slender knot with only one tag end. Very quick too. I love it.

i have had it slip a few

Thu, 2014-04-03 23:02

i have had it slip a few times last time i was on cable beach had a solid hit then nothing pulled it in and you know its slipped when you still have the full bimini loop.

but i found a cure last night while searching for fgknot videosthey call it a worm knot in the states and if you search bimini to worm knot you should find it.

basically the guy puts three half hitches at the end of the knot before cutting the tag.

i tried it but used three turns in the hitch ala uni knot style and it came up a treat so that will be my goto knot if tying the fg is to hard in the boat.

cheers
