bottom bouncing - mono vs braid

me and a mate were having a discussion today about fishing with braid or mono when bottom bouncing. I fish with braid but he fishes with mono just wondering what everyone else uses cause he swears by mono. we both use the same reels tekota 800's, so just like to get other opions on what other people use (purely bottom bouncing)

i refuse to use fireline, i hate the stuff...wirey, stiff goes all fury! its ranks..there much better braids on the markets!
mind u fireline would have on of the most 100% tru breaking strains...most braids say 50lb but they break 8-10lb before that, fireline breaks at what it says! thats what ive found when ive tested them...still doesnt make me want to use fireline though

like using tuffline, jerry brown...and rapala braid isnt half bad either

cheers

braid all the way for me

Mon, 2007-10-29 15:16

braid all the way for me too. i have got my biggest trolling rig set up with a top shot of a 100 mtres of mono.still below it is 65lb braid.
has anyone noticed some of the cheeaper braids, diametre is creeping right up there with the equivilent mono diameter.still a little thinner but not much.

always in it just the depth that varies

Went up to the local swap meet on Sunday. Picked up a few rolls of new jigging braid for $20.00 each. Seemed to be lots of NEW fishing gear for sale at a couple of stalls???????? Very fishy!

braid for me

definitly braid for me. nice feel to it. You can fel the taps and ground so much better and little stretch in it so you can lock up and not get burried into the reef.

braid

how often are you guys respooling braid on your reels? We went through a stage of loosing plenty of fish to line breaking all over the place, was 50lb Fins. it had probably been on the reels 4 months. We thought we would have a change and have been bottom fishing with 50lb mono. And havent had any line break. Were sticking with mono and we have been fishing quite well with it.

I get well over 12 moths out

Mon, 2007-10-29 16:52

I get well over 12 moths out of my braid! IMO if you buy the best it lasts longer. Well ive been using diawa accu depth braid for jigging now for 3 seasons and it still looks brand new not even the colours have run yet. Bass hard is another top braid IMO but yeah they are bluddy dear! But not to bad if it lasts ;)

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!

What about reefs

Mon, 2007-10-29 21:57

Gents i have found on occasions that the braids and firelines cut quite easily when bottom bouncing over reefs have used Mono trace to counteract this problem. Anyone else had the same dramas

braid

I put platypus superbraid on all my reels when fishing braid. Have had some of it on for nearly 5 years and still going strong - never had breakage issues or problems. Have it from 8lb up to 80lb and is all good, would highly recommend it. Jody wouldnt buy it though as it doesnt come in pink :>

Fished with a decent mono leader and then you should have no problems.

Cheers
