Bobo's most excellent adventure
Having found a gap in his busy social calendar, Bobo - Uncle Stu's fiesty Fox Terrier - decided to join us this morning on an expedition to Flat Rock.

After leaving Perth in total darkness, we arrived at Flat Rock on dawn to find it was one of those perfect spring mornings. A light breeze, glassy blue water and a solid little wave, which all suggested we should be okay to get into a few nice tailor.
After losing a good fish second cast, Uncle Stu soon got the ball rolling when he landed a very healthy 44 cm tailor. Bobo, as is his nature, went into raptures and made a bee line for the fish as it was washed up in the waves. Happily he managed to dodge around the fiercely snapping fish without losing his nose.

While Stu and I both lost solid fish after this, it was quite obvious that the tailor were moving in and out of the hole we were fishing in and it was just a matter of perserverance before we hooked up solid again.
That was the case when Stu connected to a very solid fish which bit through his line just as he was bringing it into the wave area.
Finally I managed to entice a big run of my own and after taking extra care getting the fish through the shore break I had a twin of Stu's tailor - about 44 cm and very thick in the body.
The bite then went a bit quiet before I felt a pecking at my bait. It definately wasn't a tailor smash and grab hit, and I was just thinking it might have been a herring when the weight came on and the fish started ripping line from my Stradic. This was definately no herring.
After a good solid fight, the fish tired quickly and I was able to drag it up the beach quite easily, until Bobo decided he wanted a piece of the action. Stu quickly called him away when we saw that the fish was a very sizeable and very angry snook/pike with some serious dentures.
We eventually calmed Bobo and the fish down and the latter measured in at a very respectable 82 cm.

That was about it for the fishing action as we had to head back to town.
It was an awesome morning - the weed situation was a bit difficult but far better than it has been on the northern metro beaches over the past week - but the weather was nigh on perfect and the company was first class. Thanks Bobo for inviting me along.

Thanks Matt
Once this weed finally moves right away I think we might be in for a very good spring of beach fishing. The winter storms have left some very interesting holes and gutters.

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Good Morning Fishing
Looks like you had a great morning fishing. We can not take our dog fishing he eats the bait before we can get it on the hooks.
When we were up at Yanchep last weekend we took a drive on the 4x4 tracks up from Two Rocks. Some nice looking spots we will have to check it out a bit more.

Yes Bluebone there are lots of nice spots in there
I was surpised there wasn't a lot of people camping up that way considering it was the school holidays.

We did not drive too far up
We did not drive too far up the track as we did not have the spade. We drove to the first big car park with the walk way to the beach. Lovley spot but with only a pack of chips and a drink bottle we were not in for the long haul.
Next time we will be more prepared and drive a bit futher on. Not really knowing were we were going and what the conditions were like further on we decided to tun back and head for the Yanchep Lagoon.

Wise idea
We are trying to plan to get a group together to go up that way soon, so it would be worth your while to tag along. There are tracks everywhere in that area and it would be quite easily to get lost in a really boggy area.
There is a mud map on the site of how to get to Flat Rock.

Thanks for that Colin we
Thanks for that Colin we will see how the planning comes together. I have looked up the mud map and it comes in from Waneroo rd. We drove in from Sovereign drv at Two Rocks. Do you drive in from that way now that the road is through from the freeway to Two Rocks? The beach looks nice in your photos is it fishable for the kids?

Thanks Russ and Sandy
Yes the weed made it a bit tricky, but if the big swell predicted for the weekend doesn't mess things up, I think us landbased fishos will do real well this spring.
We might have to drag you up to Flatrocks again - but make sure you have more comfortable sleeping arrangements this time.
