Best month to go to Horricks
Submitted by meglodon on Mon, 2014-04-07 22:50
Hi all, can the good F/W members advise me on what are the best months to go to Horricks to do some bottom bashing. Also can you launch from the beach I have a 6m quinine ocean sport with a 115 yammie. I've never been there before but I have heard some quite remarkable stories about what the fishing is like up there, any tips or advice about the place would also be most appreciated.
Thanks

April, May would be close to
April, May would be close to the best, following that, sept Oct before the ban. Still get good sized swell up there during winter, and strong winds in summer.
Beach launch is possible for sure with a half decent 4WD, but make sure you have some recovery gear, Max Tracks, 2nd vehicle. Launch is easy, retrieving is where people get stuck, need to be quick so your trailer does not sink.
In the past we have used long rubber mats under the trailer tires.

This time of year would have
This time of year would have to be the most user friendly the winds are a bit more predictable. You can launch in town the beach is hard and protected but can be a bit soft as you come off the bitumen.
Little bay can be another option follow the road past the golf club north, only about ten minutes from town.Same as in town beach is hard but a short section of soft sand just follow the signs to keep on the right track.
There are plenty of spots to camp at in the designated areas for 15 bucks a night per car. There are toilets and bins Zed the local shire guy makes round most arvos.
A 4x4 is a must but I have seen 6m glass boats towed in and launched , hope this helps.

Thanks guys for your much appreciated advise, I will be using a Nissan patrol. Hopefully that will be enough grunt for the launching and retrieval.
