Beach Fishing combo?
G'day all, so I'm in need of a new beach fishing combo as my previous set was stolen! so what are some beach fishing combos all you would recommend? I'm looking for something strong enough to catch decent sized fish like mulloway, salmon, small sharks, ect.. but at the same time something with a sensitive tip, to pick up smaller bites so that catching the 'smaller' species like chopper tailor, small snapper, soapies..ect is still a lot of fun...i'm looking for something light, so it's not so tireing when you'reo n those long all-nighters, so i'm opting for graphite.. I'll mainly be fishing metro beaches, and occasionally might head down south for the Salmon run...I have a budget of $500.. i know I'm pretty choosy! but believe me all advice will be much appreciated. currently i'm looking at the Shimano Aero Wave graphites, they seem like decent rods for a reasonable price, matched with maybe a 4000+ size reel i was thinking the Shimano Stradic Ci4 (i'm a bit of a Shimano addict)...though i think that may be a bit small...anyway so what would you all recommend? :)
Cheers

hmmmm, here is my take on
hmmmm, here is my take on it.
I have two outfits. A 12' with 8000 baitrunner and a 9' with 4000 stradic. The 12' and baitrunner is ideal for longer nights and the 9' is great for the salmon, tailor and anything else. Its also light enough to flick lures in the afternoon as the sun goes down.
I know your budget wouldnt cover both but it you narrow your target and style a bit it might be more clear. If I was trying to cover both though I would second the sensor surf and stradic combo. Might be a little heavy though if you intend to flick lures.
Oh I also have a little light combo for salmon for fun but that is another story :)

Great thanks for the advice
Great thanks for the advice guys! :D i doubt i'll be doing much lure fishign with this combo as i've already got a few surf lure combos for sp and metals, this one i'm after would only just be for casting out baits, i've been doing some research and by the looks of it, it seems like the new Stradic FJ is a winner! Stevie you recommended a 8000 size? don't you find that a little too..well...big? and tainted do use use braid or mono for your combos?

Hay R Chicken, I have been
Hay R Chicken,
I have been using braid on both reels but have been getting quite sick of the hassles with weed. Not so bad when flicking lures but a pain in the arse when you send a bait out then have a lump of week get tangled. Tempted to swap back to mono.
I have a 8000 Ci4 Thunnis on my long rod and it aint that bad weight wise. Has been good when large rays decide to come along in regards to line capacity. Also find it balances nicely on the rod which is a plus.

Have you got a rod yet? Have
Have you got a rod yet? Have a look at the beach elite series either the 10 or 12 foot I've got the 8 foot it's awesome and leaves you some change maybe. You definitely want braid so you can cast further. if you haven't already got the stradic definitely look at baitrunner reels like the baitrunner oc as the feature is extremely handy when beach fishing plus handy all round. But I've also got a stradic and they are awesome!
Spending money on fishing is fun lol

Beach Rod Options
Gday Rubber Chicken,
We have just taken Samaki rods on, and there a couple of great options. There are two 9' rods, one is rated 8-15lb, and would be ideal for lighter popper and metals. And the second is rated 10-25Lb and can cast 2oz however is capable of more. We also are receiving a 12' rod rated 20-40Lb and can cast up to 8oz. They are an extremely light and strong blank, with full Fuji guides. price points are 169.95 for both 9' rods, and 199.95 for the 12' version. Reels, i cant agree more with the other lads, the Stradic 8000 is an awesome beach reel, plenty of capacity, and nice and light. We can do a FW price on the Stradic 8000 for $280. If there is anything else you would like to know please give us a call.
Cheers,

Get the samaki rod rubber
Get the samaki rod rubber chicken. You won't look back. Purchased the 9ft 8-15 lb model on Thursday from Zac at Dunsborough Outdoor Sportz. Tried it out last night and I'm very impressed. Teamed it up with a stradic 4000 and it's one awesome combo. The rod is extremely light yet very powerful. Could detect every little nibble and I'm sure it can handle more than what it's rated at. Been looking for a rod like this for a while. At $170, you can't go wrong. Cheaper than mo-tackle too! Can't wait for next years salmon run now!
