ATC rods - dont bother

Just for information. I bought a ATC rod about 4 months ago and they look flash, and have a semi bling price. The first rod was rated 30-40lb (made in the US by Bob Loomis, brother of G Loomis) and departed the scene breaking under very little strain surprisingly at the joint. Was replaced with a new rod, and yesterday hooked on to a reel screamer in the Cossack creek that almost spooled the saragosa loaded with 15kg braid. 10min into the fight this rod snapped at the butt surprisingly again. Drag was not tight at all. Fighting whatever it was with a short little rod with one guide was not fun and the inevitable happened. I just dont think this is a good blank and wonder if anyone else has had any similar experiences, or any good news for this rod.

ATC- i disagre

I disagree, been using them for the last two barra seasons proably landed more than a hundred fish including a 4 meter shovel nose shark on wednesday night. I have a 8 and 10 kg troll rod for my calcutta 200's. Never had a problem and i have landed some big fish on them.
I like the one hand grip baitcast barra rods they do, excellent in my opinion

Perhaps I have had bad luck, and Allan at Ad Sports was amazed it could break at the butt end like that. Promised me a new one but I was thinking of something else. Like your endorsement but any other rods you would go for. Use it for spin and bottom bouncing. Just love the curve in a rod.

thats the difference i suppose, i rarely use spin rods. The only atc rods i use are baitcasters, mabey there is something in that.

Perhaps some of the threadline users out there can help you. The only threadlines i have are the good ol jigwrex, GTspecial and a 10-20lb Diawa advantage, they are all excelent but i am not very experienced with threadlines,i bought mine based on the advice of others

I only have 2 baitcasters, both Shimano Miller's but only learning. having much better fun on the Curado than the Okuma. Mostly spin so I suppose will have a look at T curve or similar. Just cant get the idea of the cost of a G Loomis spin rod past the sense brain cells yet, even though I have 2 GL fly rods (which I hardly use now). For lighter spin just love the Sic stiks and Dropshots. not bling but bloody good and they havent snapped in similar circumstances.

Cheers
