tims thicket white hills

try tims thicket or whitehills just south of dawesville.   they are usually not too treacherous, just remember to let your tyres down before you go onto the beach to about 18psi to start.  might pay to find someone else witha 4wd who wants to go for a fish down there in case you get stuck.

maxtrax

as a newbie there is nothing better to invest in than a pair of maxtrax, they do the job everytime no questions asked, especially when your by yourself on the beach as i have seen a lot of 4x4s lost to the tides.

Yes White Hills and especially Tims are good

Tims is more popular, so help is never to far away, and worst scenario you can walk out to get help. On the weekends there are heaps of people down there.

As mentioned let your tyres down and I agree maxtrax are fantastic in sand. Also stay away from the wet sand, no matter how tempting the thought about "that has to be firmer" enters your head. It is often slushy and also if you get stuck, you will get wet unless you unbog in less than 6hrs maximum (that is the longest time you have, nobody is usually that lucky). Stay on the dry sand, especially to begin, but in my case allways.

And follow other peoples tracks, always a little firmer. When you get to your spot, park the car so the back faces the water. I drive up and down a few times to make a firm "escape" pathway that always give me a firm bit of sand to start with once you leave.

Have fun.

TD27?

If I remember rightly the 1991 Terrano had the 4 cyl turbo diesel with auto trans.

Is this like yours?

I had one once, great little 4x4 but you had to know what you were doing with it.

With tyres up over 15lb (12 is best) it was a reel pig. Worst part was that it continually overheated because it was working too hard. Once I realised the problem and lowered the tyre pressure, it would go almost anywhere.

I regularly drove between White hills and Bunbury ALONG THE BEACH!

Have fun and stay safe

Mate before you even hit the beach invest$

Wed, 2010-10-27 17:23

Into a 12v compressor, tyre gauge, small shovel and if you are lazy like me some tyre deflaters.

And the difference of 15psi-12psi can have major differences on getting through bottomless dirt on the beaches round here! So the gauge is a good investment!

Best time to go is after a huge rain because the sand is firm and easier to negotiate. Also remember the sand gets softer the hotter the temperature gets! And keep an eye on the tides the beaches are dissapearing and a short rise in the tide can trap you for a while or Just do what other numbnuts do and chew up all the vegetationYell.

also be careful what beaches you drive on because some councels are sick of people having fun and sick of them chewing up the said vegetationFoot in mouth..

Other than that remember that you have 2 gear ratios in 4wd and some vehicles need the front diff to be locked into place manually!(But Im sure you are aware of that)...Wink

Have fun with your new toy and hope you get into some good tailor/mulla spots and not into troubleTongue out..
