Any metro pelagic action around yet?

Was thinking of going trolling around rotto west end this weekend. Water looks like its warming up nicely. Any reports of tuna, mackies, marlin out wide ?  How about the fads any action yet?  cheers for any feedback

 The odd shark mackerel

Fri, 2026-01-30 08:26

The odd shark mackerel around West End and the southern side of Rotto.  Have heard there may be some yellowfin out at the trench but not in numbers. Nothing much at the FAD's from what I have heard. Maybe need the water to warm up a bit?

Got a yellow fin (16.5kg) on the eastern edge of the trench early jan. Was a double hook up but lost the other fish. Bit hit and miss out there but I was pleased with the yellow fin.

Was a massive school of flying fish just west

Of the northern tip of Garden Island yesterday early morning.  It was literally a silver shower of fish taking off on both sides of the boat as we headed out.  Never seen  so so many this far south. No lures aboard as we were chasing gummies.  NW blowies, hammerheads and other super toothy critters were all we caught

Promising reports in today's

Fri, 2026-01-30 19:07

Promising reports in today's RFW weekly report, but looking at the sea surface charts we are way behind compared to this time last year, with an average of 23° all the way up the coast to Shark Bay with nothing more exciting really pushing down.

As sunshine mentioned, I also come across big patches of flying fish on ffb out from garden Island last week, I might spend some time trolling some baits out there next session.

 Anyone get to the fads

Sun, 2026-02-01 18:42

Anyone get to the fads today? We tried but got to the western end of rotto and waited till 11, then bailed as was still a ripping easterly. Looks like

dropped off a bit later? We tried trawling north Side of rotto, but nothing, not even any birds. Wind was a bit all over the place.
