Albany Options - mainly Landbased

Heading down to Albany over xmas for a few days,

may have access to a 475 quinny runabout, launching from emu point. Can anyone recomend some spots? I was thinking trying skippy rock and the weed beds out the front of middleton beach for squid / KG's.

if the boat doesn't eventuate are there any landbased spots to try? I'm not after anything huge, just want to get a few whiting, squid, skippy, flathead type stuff. Was thinking areas down near the whaling station / frenchman bay?

Cheers for any help

If you can't get out in the quinny where you said, also try inside princess royal harbour for kgs from the boat.

Landbased from the emu point groin you can score kgs and skippy in the channel or like you said, over whaling station way you should find a few fish. Also head out Quaranup road to mistaken island or the bay just a bit further around. Anywhere you can fish is good :) You could try salmon holes or cable beach too for some herring and skippy, maybe even a lost salmon. Orrrrrr... walk down the Sand Patch steps and you can always get a feed of herring and silverbream or skippy.

Have fun down there! I'll be there for 2 days for christmas myself before heading to Esperance. Looking a bit windy at this stage tho.

yeah mate the forecast is saying 25-30kn easterlies and a 3-4m swell... I think the harbours would be your best bet. Even in a strong easterly you can find some nice sheltered bays around though, so some spearing along the rocks could be an option.

good luck.

when i went down over xmas

Tue, 2011-01-18 09:15

when i went down over xmas the weather was not good. was 25kn easterlies / south easterlies and very overcast.

managed to get out once at emu point in the channel when the wind dropped and got 3 reasonable kgs. there were small salmon probably around 1kg in the channel as well as skippy, bream and herring.

one day headed out to that bay goodz mentioned near mistaken island but the weather was really rough, got lucky and nailed a big cobbler but that was it.

good luck & let us know how you go
