AFL trade talk - 2016 thread
Submitted by randall df223 on Tue, 2016-08-30 11:28
Thought i would commence a thread to cover the AFL trade and draft periods as it seems the clean outs are already starting.
Two plus a retirement from Carlton and Cloke has requested a trade.
Freo obviously lose the Pav, but i expect (and hope) there will be many more! I'll call 15 changes to Freo's senior and rookie list.

Will be interesting feom a WCE point of view
To see what happens with Emac and Browny, I would hope that both stay, but has been some talk about Emac. Be interesting to see whats offered up for him or both.
What I dont want too see is Emac for Ballantyne. Id rather WC go after Motlop if there looking to that sort of player.

Talk about ballantyne - kirsen swap but i dont think ballaz wants to leave the state and geelong fans probably dislike him more than west coast fans.

Unfortunately for him - Freo have the final say I would think
He's still contracted I think? What I really really want to see is WC make a big play for Lobb - but think probably he will cost to much from a trade pov. Interesting days ahead. Have a friend who is mad 1 eyed Roos....is savage about the likely Mayne pickup
Failing Lobb - would also like Jack Steele, but there talk of him being a Saint. Always a problem forour teams luring the mexicans

I would love the AFL to get serious about trading
With Nic Nat out , and looking to the future - put the house out for Lobb.
Imagine something like Gaff for Lobb. Sure you lose an amazing player, but team balance... both could win out of this.
What is more likely offered will be pick 20 two years in a row.. GWS will not be interested at all.
Chris Mayne is off to North Melbourne .... you can have Drew Petrie and Brent Harvey for him...jokes.... What about trade Majak Daw for Chris Mayne ... seems fair??

Last thing he'll want to at his age is travel every other week. I think the rebuild factor at Freo means it's a no go.

Surely Freo have an
Surely Freo have an obligation to take Cam McCarthy after basically making him sit the year out and they are also going to trade in Bradley Hill by all accounts.
To mine that leaves West Coast in the box seat to get Lobb who has already indicated that he wants to be traded West, surely GWS have learned their lesson after last year. West Coast would also do well to remember the treatment we got when Ebert wanted to go home and offer up our second pick and THEN if required throw in a player Mastento 'sweeten' the deal. We'll be lucky to get a bag of Samboy chips for Mitch Clown.
I'd personally love the West Coast through the kitchen sink at one of O'Meara or Swallow who are now both wanting out of GC with a fit Swallow being the exact sort of big bodied mid we need.
I still believe Emac has a lot to offer as a pure shutdown player allowing McLovin to be a true swingman taking big clunks in the forward 50 and allowing Darling to run through the middle a bit more.

I dont expect to see bradley hill at freo next year. 2018 maybe when he is out of contract. He shouldn't be a priority over someone like lobb. Possibly trade walters for lobb. Gws want a small forward apparently.

Inreresting Randall
Can I say though, It's difficult enough in a sense to understand why Lobb would want out given where GWS are now - however - no offence , but why would his prference be Freo when they are in another rebuild - dosent make sense to me. How also do you fit Lobb and Mcarthy both in trade deals, difficult spot I think. I am working on the fact youll get hill.

Why would josh kennedy want
Why would josh kennedy want to come to the eagles in 2008 amongst all the turmoil at the time. Kenned has had to wait more than 4 years to play in a GF and had to endure a wooden spoon along the way.
Why would lobb want to go there now with kennedy still in his prime, nic nat and lycett arent going anywhere anytime soon.
If its a flag he is after in the next three years, he best stay at gws.
theyre all interesting questions, arent they?

Josh Kennedy didn't want to
Josh Kennedy didn't want to come back to WA he was moved on by Carlton in no uncertain terms is your answer.
Lobb is a good Swan Districts boy who has expressed a desire to come home and barracked for the Eagles who coincidently require a ruckman and will have room in their salary cap to pay him handsomly. Lobb in the forward line when Nic Nat returns give Eagles flexibility to play Darling who has a huge tank in a different role.
Agree on the better chance of a flag at GWS however.
But hey, as we know with footy it's all tea leaves to us punters.

All of our forwards are hit
All of our forwards are hit up on the lead style players and we don't actually have anyone to sit deep for the top of the square kick and take the big clunk. That's where either Lobb after Nic Nat returns or retaining Emac and releasing McLovin forward become very important.

It will go right down to the wire that one i reckon. Either that or it will be done in the first day. Freo should just bide their time and do all their other deals and then in the last hour on the last day see what they want to give up. Kennedy
Was not keen on coming home - he was required to do so otherwise Carlton were not getting Juddy.
Kennedy not ruck so that's not important.
So Lycca and Lobb for at least one whole season - right move. Darling play up ground after that - Lobb forward but able to play either end (mobile rucman ala Coxy), also important if we lose Emac.

Might be dreaming regarding Lobb so along with getting McCarthy , I’d consider Vickory as a tall Ruck/Fwd good hands and bonus he doesn’t mind bitch slapping the girly boys from up the road .. Mids are covered .. Backs , I hope Ibbotson’s not on the table can’t see Johnson playing injury free a whole season .. McKenzie’s experience would be a good fit if he wants to stay in town .
