8lb nitlon to..what weight fluoro?

hey, I'm sure this is well covered but the search function isn't the greatest on my phone.

Fishing of busso jetty with 8lb nitlon for tailor, bonito, trumpeters...etc. What lb fluoro should I be using, 16? From reading around it seems to be that almost double is about normal but then nek minnit I'm reading that people go well under their mainline weight?

I've only just got back into fishing after about ten years. (where/when the hell did all this jigging and thousand dollar spinning reels become the norm? And Egi? I'm a sucker for new shiny things and will probably get myself an Egi outfit but...like.. I got nothing)

Anyway... Fluoro... What weight would some of you recommend for (light/med) busso jetty/beach?

Cheers

I go as light as I feel

I go as light as I feel comfortable with. Around snags/jetty for tailor and such id go 10-15lb, 20 if i got bitten off. The guys that fish lighter poundages are fishing mainly for more timid fish where the lighter the better. I have heard of guys fishing bream tournaments fishing no leader and 4lb fluro straight through.

A Egi rod is for catching

Fri, 2013-03-01 01:46

A Egi rod is for catching squid. Off the jetty I fish with 80lb leader, the snook and tailor are very hard on the leader out there, they will chew through 40lb no problem. If you want a really good all round jetty stick get a one that is in the 5- 10 kg class. This weight class is very good for pulling the tailor and bonito out from under and around the pylons. You can get a good rod in this class such as the Shimano Raider 5-10Kg for around $130. I use a G-Loomis Gl2 5-10kg matched with a Diawa SOL 3000, a nice light set up but with the power to give them the curry when they try to pylon wrap you.

As for herring it doesn't matter what you use, a hand line will do.

Hope this helps.
