Independants!
I fully agree with you but it's suprising how many people support them with the knowledge that they dont know much or arent much help.....go figure.
I did a price check today on snapper sinkers and i blitz their prices but ppl are under the asumption their cheap on everything...not the case.
Small independant tackle stores will disapear if they dont get support, thats a no brainer for sure....it's starting to happen already and i know another 2 independant shops that are selling or closing!

I have to admit that I do
I have to admit that I do most of my shopping at either BCF or Ranger just for pure convenience. Most of the smaller stores down my way dont have the range that Im looking for or can compare with the prices. I go there to stock up on gear and would never ask for advice as some of the responces in the past have been pathetic. No offence Ryan as Ive only been into your shop a couple of times and bought a few things wich I was happy with the prices. But a lot of these smaller stores that I shop at arnt exactly helping them selves with there pricing. Im all for the smaller buisiness dont get me wrong but Im not going to pay double the price when I can get It down the road cheaper. Unfortunatly it is a compedative game and they will either sink or swim but I cant afford to spend more in there shop just to keep them afloat. Dont get me wrong I do feel sorry for these guys but they just cant compete and that is a shame.

When you can get a Daiwa Emblem pro 5500 for 150 bucks landed in Aust and local stores are $269 or there abouts , look for more to go under while our Aust dollar is high.

Help them out
I am not a tackle sotore owner but this is how I see it:
- Small stores cannot compete price wise as they do not have the buying power. The wholesalers/manufacturers will always give a better price ot the guy buying 100 units than the bloke buyingg 10.
- Of coure you get better service, advise and the like at the smaller stores. These guys are fishos that work there because they enjoy it. Some larger stores just employ whomever because they need staff.
- You become known at smaller stores if you regularly shop there. Thye look after you with special pricing (where possible) and give you the REALLY good advice on where the fish are and how they are being caught.
- Yes you can buy things cheaper overseas via the internet - heck I have also done it - but remember that if something dies or breaks down warranties will not always be honoured by the supplier here.
- If your local store is a bit expensive, maybe have a chat to the operator. I am sure they would appreciate the feedback (am I right here? - interested to hear from some store owners)
I have a massive beef against all large companies that try to push little blokes out of business. I do not shop at Woolies or Coles where possible but rather go to my local shop. Yeah it costs a bit more but I prefer to help out the little guy. You buy local and your money stays local for all to benefit. That tackle store operator that you bought a reel/rod/lure from may one day need your services or come and buy something from you.
What goes around comes around - where possible buy local. I know that sometimes some bargains are too good to pass up and that is fine but in order to save a couple of dollars, it isn't worth it.
Anyway, that is my rant!

Don't get me wrong
I buy $hitloads local , but somethings are either too good to pass up or I can't get it local so I source it OS .
Some Reels I can get from OS for 1/3rd of the price here in Perth ( if their even available in Aust), yeah I don't get a warrantee , who cares when I can get 3 for the same price as 1 local , plus a lot of stuff just doesn't come into the country , braids etc are just so cheap os.

Dean - Easier Question LOL
Hey Dean - maybe the RIGHT question to ask is 'what hight are they at' - answer will always be 'within 1 meter' - and that's depth independent

Is that the Custom Networks
Is that the Custom Networks just off Duro Rd in Sth Freo? I used to shop with those guys when they were on the corner of Hampton Rd and Stevens St just up from the old prison a long time ago.
Cheers

yes!
Yes i agree Tapout and GusG!
This isn't a BCF bash from me at all and yes they do have staff that know their stuff but obviously a thin amount imo and the general public "assume" they're the cheapest and all staff are very knowledgable/full on fisho's....that's always been my point........not the case.
I was highlighting independants and yes agree also GusG that smaller shops dont help themselves but with more & more competatives they also have less $$$ coming in as clients go elsewhere....double edged sword.
I stock heaps, i buy right and are competative with the larger shops and yes if they ask for a deal or they're a website member they get another discount so yes GusG.....i agree ask your independant shop Managaer or Owner for a "regular customer discount" and they should/we do look after them.
Just my take!

not much left there, went
not much left there, went for a drive today, only bits and pieces, and the ticketed prices are alot higher than what you can get some of the stuff at other shops, therefor with 50% off your prob only getting about 20% on some stuff

Hi Ya, NOT being a shop
Hi Ya,
NOT being a shop owner, I ask the simple question - Why don't the small owners 'merge' in a retravision (and others) type setup where the combined buying power produces cheaper buy prices, but they remain independent? Could even retain their own independent names, simply need to set up a 'buying house' to purchase supplies.
Yes, I know, easier to describe than set up, but if it means survival, why not. Just maybe, they don't want to survive.
Cheers.
