3P parking at the North molo

Was in Freo yesterday and thought that I will have a look what is going on at the North molo, since I haven't been down there in ages. What was the most prominent change was the forest of 3P parking signs with "automatic number recognition in use" on it and other BS. Not sure what sparked it, if people were camping there or what, but 3 hours seems bit short for a fishing session. Some people stay there over night fishing and I certainly spend more than 3 hrs there at a time. Otherwise it's not worth the trip. This overregulation of everything is really getting on my nerves lately. I don’t think that there were any parking issues there (rubbish is another issue), plenty of room for everybody. Did anybody get done for parking longer there or it's not really policed that much? Yet…

Happening everywhere in Freo

Fri, 2015-10-30 12:43

Happening everywhere in Freo at the moment, with the nicer weather coming the backpackers will be heading back towards the metro area and living in the carparks again.. it really just gives the ranger an excuse to move them on.
Shouldn't have too much trouble if you're fishing

I thought the same. Didn't notice any fixed cameras so I assume it means ranger scans your number plate. To get a fine that would require ranger to be coming every 3 hours. And I haven't seen any rangers.

Targeting the backpackers but the funny thing is it won't work because once you leave the country they don't chase you up for it.

Don't be so sure that it's the Rangers... There's a few shires which use sub-contractors who drive around a car with number plate recognition cameras. You can guarantee that you will receive a fine if they can give you one! For them it's their business, there will be no common sense or discretion used.

So it is a money grabbing exercise and they will give you fine if they can. Common sense has gone out of the window again.

Yep, amazing how often that happens. Unfortunately there will be no discretion if its not a ranger. Basically a win/win for the shire!
