20/30lb Braid for casting
Submitted by Jody on Thu, 2009-09-17 07:36
Just wondering what peoples thoughts are, on the best braid for land based casting would be in the 20 to 30lb range.
Some of them seem quite stiff and waxy... wouldn't that have memory and reduce cast distance?
Colour is not an issue ... lol .......... well, only if it's not colourfast and splatters my clothes for the next year

is money an issue?
braid depends on budget for a lot of people.......
nothing wrong with platypus but sunline is good and basshard even better.......

lets pretend
money is no issue at all. There would have to be a really good reason to pay top dollar.

Well... the more money you
Well... the more money you pay for a line means there's more strands in it. Most off the shelf braid are made of 4ply or 6ply of some sort. The top shelf stuff are 8ply. Difference is the more ply there is in it, the finer and smoother the line will be. Downside is the cost and the increasing difficulty in making them.
For me Sunline Super PE, Daiwa TD Sensor Orange, Line Systems Bass Hard are all good casting lines without costing an arm and a leg. Best stuff to get is the Varivas PE in all the "Avani" models. Anything over $150 per 300m is top shelf stuff.

Tortue Nacrylan Braid
It sometimes seems we sell more of this for the retailers personal use than they do for their stock. It is incredibly smooth and supple.

Yep, I use the same on my Stradic and Moonraker
I still think the pink bionic braid is the best braid I have used, but I can't find it anywhere.

Also at GotYa Balcatta Colin. DEFINATELY the right colour :)
I'd like to compare the Sensor. Anyone know who stocks it? Tried a couple of stores with no luck.
Another on suggested was Nitlon?? Any thoughts?

Nitlon
I have been using 3 and 8kg Nitlon in blue for a while, not bad at all, no memory and good casting distance, no wind knot's either, good value for money.

I had a bad experience with the blue Nitlon Jody
and took it straight off the reel and replaced with sensor. The Nitlon may have come from a bad batch, but the dye started running straight away and then I had a snap off for no apparant reason when I was casting.

yamatoyo 20lb at PE2 is what i am casting off my hyper custom at the moment. at 300 meters, it cost me $150(in singapore dollors). so far still very happy. best braid i have use so far. no more crappy braids like fire line or power pro for me.. whahaha.. only japanese braid. another braid would be the sunline castaway. loaded the 150m, 10lb, PE0.8 (if i remember correctly) on the daiwa emeraldas. all i can say is that it cast sweet....

I hate the yamatoyo ...
I hate the yamatoyo ... failed on me in 3 spools.. wont be buying that again. 20lb seems fine but the low poundage stuff doesnt really like knots at all, upgraded to sunline
