Can't say I've seen anything like that before in my life Fredo. Do you eat those fish or release them? Looks like something from the prehistoric age. Great catch!!!
Monk fish is delicious, the meat feels like lobster in mouth, i didn't release it because it was my first monk fish catch. Local fishermen found incredible that i caught it by jigging

Hi Kasey,
The lure i used to catch this monk fish is a glowing 165 g japanese lure, i took a photo with the lure hanged in his mouth.Monk fish live on the bottom they don't really move, i just move my lure slowly for this fish. I also use zest lure (300 g).
It doesn't take so much time to reach 400 feet with 165 g weight.

Wow, there must be very different currents and drift.
In 121m (400ft) I generally use 350-400gm jigs, going up to 550 grams even. And it still takes a while to reach bottom!

Would you mind sharing
Would you mind sharing tackle information?
I have just read that monkfish have some big teeth... so
200lb leader?
I am very surprised that you used such a small jig in 420 ft of water (120+m?) it must not weigh much more than 250grams?

Ok A good photo
I think this is a great catch and a great photo!
For some unknown reason tho it just doesn't do the fish or angler justice IMHO!
Probably its the subdued light from overcast day or lattitude iit's taken at or something!
Maybe a strong fill flash would have lifted the color saturation a lot!
I don't know given the fish size and type that much more could be done to improve composition.
Lack of shadows on anglers face is good, hiding his grin behind hands holding fish tho, not so!
I suspect flash is whats lacking here!
A great catch...what the photo lacks the fish makes up for..
Lose the rod in the holder behind angler!
Otherwise great pic!
Hope these comments are acepted as constructive criticism and help to get an even better photo next time!
Cheers!
