speak to craig saltwater leaves from hillarys and is a tip top charter . between the 2 you have mentioned id go blue juice mate went out on mills and wasnt overly impressed and heard many of the same reports from others
i work on blue juice so i would say bluejuice mate, iv seen more space left on the sheep boats leaving freeo than mills charters they do like to cram them in. but craig is good uses egg beaters with braid at the min!
last time i went out was with millss... but i wasnt happy coz they overload their boats!!!! the time that i went out was 28 ppl on board!! how crap was that!!! i only caught 1 fish mostly tangled with others!!!
NO PAIN NO GAIN!!!
I went with blue juice about 6 months ago, wouldnt recommend it at all, actually it possibly put me off fishing charters for life, will stick to fishing in closer on my 5 metre, much better than getting tangled up with 15 other blokes all day and not catching fish for the efforts.
Also found the blue juice deckie pretty arogant too, not a good thing when stuck on a boat all day with him!
Last time i went out with Mills 27 guys fishing,33 fish caught, 1st 5 drops tangles, never again, heard good reports about sea venture at two rocks going to give them a try soon.
Shikari Charters. 8 on boat usually. More expensive than other charters, but I can tell you it's well worthwhile with the good gears and more fishing time. The first time I went we had 4 or 5 who never jigged. We did a 4 person per round rule, and although it's a small boat, there wasn't a tangle up at all. We were given instructions and great assistance to prevent all that happening so that everyone coud get more fishing time.
Plus Allan is a great guy and it's really "green fishing" on this charter. Everything barbless and caught sambos tagged and released quickly. Was gonna go on his charter again this season, but the time slots I wanted all fully booked. :(
Have never been on Mills but have been on Blue Juice twice. Don't have any complaints about either trip.
The first time was on a Friday for a jigging session. Got 1 hour off shore and the skipper cancelled. Probably just as well as the ride was better than a roller coaster. I thouroughly enjoyed the ride despite the fact that several others on board were chucking regularly.
Other time was on a bottom bounce given to me as a gift from the family. Wasn't much good as I caught only 1 sweep. Initially put it down to "that's fishing" but having read the experiences with a lot of others on charters generally I have begun to wonder. Put it this way, I have considered a charter several times since (as I don't have my own boat) but then thought about the cost, likelihood of catching fish and decided that for $200 I could go out as a deckie two or three times for that price and have a far better time. Just got to get a spot. Not that I've asked too often as that doesn't sit well with me - don't know why just me. Personally, I'd rather wait to see an invite posed up and then respond.
Ain't more expensive, some are up around $300 these days, I'm sure AB is still around $200, I havn't paid for a while tho, I stand on the marlin board and get wet.
AB has spots available so ring him if your after a decent work out.
Ok - first time poster here. This is a great site with plenty of advice....
I have been out on Mills, Bluejuice and Saltwater, not having access to any other means of getting offshore. Got to say that none of them are that great but would rate Saltwater as the best of the lot. I think that customer service is something they could all improve upon.
Went with Bluejuice and the ex g/f caught a nice 10kg dhuie (fish of the day for the boat). The deckies were basically asking upfront for half a side and the head. I dont mind giving deckies fish (and in fact we left some nice pinkies for them) but it was the attitude that sucked a bit and just the expectation (and yes, they got half a slab of the dhu!!)
Mills - couple of things - firstly, a tourist caught a good size sambo. No attempt at release even though it looked OK and the next thing is the deckie is parading the things heart around the boat!! Secondly, everbody got absolutely soaked on the way back - there wasnt a dry spot on the lower deck. the captain and deckies tho were fine as they went up top. There were plenty of familes with kids on board and tho i didnt mind, there were some pretty unhappy looking people 2 and a half hours later!!
My advice if you go with any of these guys - expect it to be crowded and to get tangled and unless you like using broomsticks and alvey reels with 100lb mono, take your own gear (and also a basic gimbal belt). I have sworn to myself I will never go again unless I take my own tackle. I have also taken a few hooks as they are usually pretty dull. I havent had much success at all on charters but others have - just the luck of the draw in that respect.
I will have to give Shikari a go - 8 people sounds much better. I am also waiting for some ingenious person to start a sportsfishing charter (eg maybe trolling, soft plastics etc) out of Perth that doesnt involve 2-3 hour trips each way - surely there must be some good fishing not that far offshore!!
Sorry to sound negative - as they say a bad days fishing is better than a good days work but for the $200 that each of them charge (approximately), they may have to do some work as money becomes tighter for people.
The best charter I ever did was done at Walpole - not offshore, but bream and flats fishing. Learnt loads about lures, soft plastics.
Funny i went out on mills a few months back to, a the deckie was parading around with a heart in his hand too! Pity he wasnt looking after his customers instead.

mate was travelling around Aussie but a bunch of us arrived in broome to catch up. had our own boats but decided to go out on a charter as a large group of friends and to get out real wide....
mate picked a charter based on captains sales pitch.....
1. left late cause the captain was severely hungover seeing "he never had a drink in his life" but the coporate charter the previous night managed to turn the tide. Boat was awash with beer cans........
2. 3 hours out, 3 hours return only 2 hours fishing ...... don't mind paying to fish but insult to intellegnece to pay for travel only....paying good $$ for him to be late due to being on the turps.....think not
3. pulled up on first lump and deckie is out back with overhead and casting away.....immediately hooks up on a mackie and lands it. casts out again and another mackie.....so much for setting the gear up!!
4. sh#t gear, broomskick decron and alveys.....we had own gear but wouldn't cater to any form of use.....
5. one drop on the lump and then move off......buy this time i was looking at sounder....fish (mackies) everywhere and could have let people catch some as deckies was doing....
6. next lump a few small fish.....
7. that was it?
8. all deckie did was try to chat my sister up......
9. captain was sulking in wheelhouse due to state of hungover........
not impressed........if didn't know any better the captain was taking the piss....wont splash his name carma will get him.........
next day out a couple of km from broome and 45lb mackie for my sister....her first pelagic.....plenty more fish for the trip
