help with outboard

Can any of you guys recommend a good outboard mechanic?
I have a Johnson 140hp that has decided not to run. I was out all day Sat & it ran great, never missed a beat. Got home, washed the boat & went to flush the motor & it just wouldn't start.
Have tried new fuel, cleaned the carbys, have got a spark but it just wont go. Timing hasn't slipped so key way is good.
It's a total mystery, any help would be great.

can you be a bit more specific?? is the motor cranking over?? checked the man overboard button ( dont know its correct name?? the red button near the throttle...)...check you have the mtotr in neutral....

outboard problem
I live in Maddington.
The motor turns over & sometimes fires, but only runs for a second.
My first thought was a fuel prob, but now I'm thinking electrical.
Is there any way of testing the power packs?
I'm sure I'll catch a biggy oneday.

If you have a spark, stick
If you have a spark, stick with a fuel problem. Blocked jets in the carbie?? Blocked fuel filter.

Four stroke or two stroke
If its a four check the fuel pump a couple of mates have had problems with there's
spray a bit of fuel down the spark plug holes put them back in and give it a crank if it fires you know know its fuel

yep, agree, if your getting
yep, agree, if your getting spark....most likely fuel issues...check pump in motor, check priming bulb, check lines for cracks....filters...etc etc... diji's method is a good way of seeing if it is a fuel issue

outboard probs(WA outbords)
Thanks guys. Think this is gonna be a big headache. Played around with it again yesterday, got it to run perfectly first turn of the key for 15-20 times & when it's running it runs really well. But then, with no warning, it just dies.
It did this twice yesterday. Now I've put it all back together & I am gonna take it to WA Outboards in Cannington. Has anyone had dealings with them? Are they any good??
I'm sure I'll catch a biggy oneday.

Feel your pain fisherking!
Many years ago, when I had my first boat, it would start every time on dry land and when launching. But then, if we'd been anchored or drifting for even an hour - it sometimes refused to start. Yet, there were times when, when anchored for 3 hours, it would test start every 30 minutes, only not to start when we wanted to return.
So I feel your pain!
I'm no OB mechanic, but, from what the more knowledgeable guys have said, fuel supply problems seems to be the likely culprit, especially with it running smoothly when you can start it.
Purely speculation, but I wonder - could an intermittent short in the head of the motor be the issue - just a wild guess.
Anyway mate, good luck with it - hope you get it sorted out once and for all!
