You don't mind that shit in the sound but not 38km's out.

Great pic but wouldn't do it justice unless you were actually there on the water, I'm glad I wasn't!

IF IT SMELLS LIKE FISH IT MUST BE GOOD FOR YOU!

Nice pic mate.

I would have had pics like that but I don't have a underwater camera !!

Had to turn on the bilge pump to pump out the rain at one stage.

Well done on the Bonito's

Sun, 2008-05-11 10:24

Well done on the Bonito's and Stripe Tuna. I was fishing the reefs along Burns Beach/Mindarie area, a bit afraid of the lightning due to having a graphite rod in my hand attach to it a Halco Twisty 30g. Water and Volts does not match lol.

Thanks.

I was watching that come in

Sun, 2008-05-11 14:12

I was watching that come in on the radar, nightshift friday night. Posted up on here that it was coming and when I saw how bad it looked.

The forcast did say turning NW to 18kts. Showers, increasing in the afternoon,  thunderstorms with squalls to 40kts.

I phoned Dazza at 6:15 and he said he could see the lightning out to sea from Point Peron so I am surprised you guys even went out.

Safety

Sun, 2008-05-11 15:19

All the crew were experienced and know their boats capabilities.....was wet but not too bad.......in any case it was a good handicap and the winners were well deserved.

Thats again to Tim and Andy (soft) Mac for organising a great get together...

and a big thanks to the sponsors, Oceanside and Compleat.....

That snapper pulled from the channel markers was a cracker.....bet not to many people have pulled em from there.....probably wouldnt even think about fishing it

well done to all the winners

Mornings started rough and just got rougher as the day progressed.
4 days of the same zero drift was hard to take.
Good to see you "hard" boys managed to get back safely.WinkSurprised
That pinky looked to be a good fish.
So who won what?

Cheers

Sun, 2008-05-11 15:22

fully agree there salmo with everything, though you may not have headed out as deep as some of the other boats not sure? but i know the waves started getting a little big, i do remember one skipper saying he was shitting himself a bitTongue out but it made for an interesting day

Went half way up the 5F for a look

Sun, 2008-05-11 15:37

near the passage Mako...found a great spot.... heaps of fish on the sounder pulled a couple of rat pinks.....

But deckie had trouble with the anchor settingWink.....

very quick drift made it hard to hit the bottom quickly.....needed a heavier pick.

Then the lightning started .....We watch a big hit strike land near peron itself....think it was the passage marker on the hill......and Spess got a love knock with the static from his rod.....bit hairy so retreated back south to Peron......

Going back to that area again soon.....

mako magic's picture

yeah some good area down

Sun, 2008-05-11 15:42

yeah some good area down there, true that lightning wasnt too good and with the rods wouldnt have been good, i went out close to 30kms offshore and was pretty nasty out there for us

Salmo's picture

30km yikes

Sun, 2008-05-11 15:54

mako magic's picture

yeah a couple of us were out

Sun, 2008-05-11 16:13

yeah a couple of us were out that far prob, wasnt to bad till after the last front came thru us and the seas picked up, made for a slow trip back

NoWorries's picture

Twice as far as us

Sun, 2008-05-11 16:51

We only ventured about 15k out and that was bad enough.

Wasn't worried at any time out there but was a bit worried later when we couldn't see Garden Island or the bridge until we were only meters from it Surprised
