Whats with all the Sharks up the creeks??

I have spent a bit of time on the water the last couple of weeks in search of the very elusive barra. But any time I drop a live bait over the side it seems to get snavelled up by a shark! Went out last night and hooked about 5 sharks around the 1.5 - 1.8m size in the creeks. Not much fun when you have to spend a bit of time chasing the live bait. And even when we werent hooking them shining the torch along the shoreline showed up more solid fins cruising amongst the bait schools.

I have found the same around

Thu, 2011-11-24 15:26

I have found the same around Hedland. Apparently this last moon phase has something to do with the larger than normal numbers in the creeks. It really does suck balls when you know your going to have to walk around that sand bar again gathering bait thanks to the sharks.

Thu, 2011-11-24 16:27

i gave it a crack at the east harding, saw two but we hooked none on livies, SP's or lures, the livies we got where pretty small mullet too which sucked. I'll be keeping an eye out for Webby to report for his trip tomorrow as i'm stuck offshore at the moment so i miss the trip and a job interview too god dammit!

water got to 30 degrees too from 25 when we got there at 7am, did catch a few small black jews on SP's as well which was cool

Yeah, not biting too well at the moment

Thu, 2011-11-24 16:51

Went up to Balla Balla and fished the creeks there for 2 days. Trolled, flicked and floatd some liveys but only one strike. Had a nice one jump near the boat but it wouldnt take anything that we were throwing at it.

has alot to do with the amount of bait getting around atm i would say!

Local karratha creeks are holding healthy amounts of fish at the moment! Also big numbers of tripple tail getting caught aswell... Try putting the bait fishing rod away and dragging some lures around!

i must have lucked out because the calcutta copped a happering from the SP's and trolling, that's why it's fishing i guess, certianly plenty of bait around at the moment in the creeks. i need to get back out there again for another shot.

Agreed, live bait is a pain.

Fri, 2011-11-25 15:45

Agreed, live bait is a pain. Lures and sp's are much better. Sorry brucey no fishing for me today. Got heaps to do to try and get this trade cert sorted so had to bail.

I might give the SP's a shot tomorrow

Wed, 2011-11-30 22:08

I havent tried using any artificials after dark. I bought some of the all black RMGs both medium and small as I was told that they were the best after dark. Anyone used them? Or any particular color after dark? Might go and flick some around Cossack or Samson and see how they go. Might hav some more luck with the low tomorrow night. We had a full tide the other night and it was pretty quiet. And it didnt take much sunshine to heat the water up.

Braxi, lures work just as

Thu, 2011-12-01 06:15

Braxi, lures work just as well after dark mate.  its just that its easier (for us) during the day.  most of the same applies mate, i have used all the lures i use during the day at night successfully.  Saying that i probably lean more towards the natural bait patterns at night mate.  its also really good fun chucking surface lures around mate, its pretty exciting when you hook a bazz at night on a popper or a fizzer, the walk the dog type lures work really well also.

ill give it a try tonight. There was heaps of action down there the other night after the tide started getting a bit lower. Ive just found some of my poppers in the shed so I might give them a throw as well.
