The most unusual thing

Fri, 2010-12-03 08:50

The most unusual thing happend last night acually. I was fishing at eshed and my mate was about 15 meters to my left.
I felt a few small bites and just as i was waiting for the hookep i looked over and jason was hooked up and then my line started to go tight. I thought we were tangled. He pulled the fish over the side and onto the ground and i couldnt belive my eyes, The fish had my hook in its mouth and his!!! hahahahaha Never had that in all my years fishing lol!

Most unusual would be a lionfish on a SP.

Have caught a dollie in 8m of water off rotto fishing for salmon.

My dad and his friend ended up pulling up the same dhuie. I've also caught a dhuie with the remnants of Colins rig in its mouth, hehe.

occy

Fri, 2010-12-03 10:26

shore fishing at Ningaloo about 20 years ago - landed a decent snapper and had a huge occy hanging on. The snapper was still alive and I was retrieving the whole time so the occy must have seen it go past and jump on. He refused to let go, so they both ended up as dinner :-)

Fri, 2010-12-03 10:33

Another unusual captures was fishing at golden ponds i caught 3 rainbow trout. Took them home for dinner and only cooked up 2. Ended up using a whole rainbow trout minus the head for bait out offshore and caught a duie on it!!!!

I was fishing near the mouth of the Collie river about 10 years ago and landed what i thought was some kind of eel, after some research we identified it as a hairtail which was something i've never caught or seen since.

Fri, 2010-12-03 14:34

wern't me but i've seen 2 Billfish caught on standard paternoster rigs on the retrieve while bottom fishing at Coral Bay.

First one was a Black Marlin @30kg that took an Occy tenticle on a 8/0 hooked cleanly in the mouth. The other was a ripper Sailfish of around the same weight that took a slab of spanish flag on a 8/0. The old fella that hooked that couldn't get out of his chair due to the strength of the fish and it took him about 30mins to land it. Great sightCool

Ugly bastard but in 15m offshore inbetween Malus and Rosemary Islands, Dampier.

I originally thought it was one of those ooglies, but on closer inspection without a doubt a stonefish, which in my role/work I have to be able to ID with certainty. Was a little surprised to say the least.

Thought the long tom on an x-rap in the Dawesville Cut was pretty strange.

Hey Matt, you didn't actually land that dollie at Rotto...my son buggered up the net shot and then the line broke! Unless you got another one I don't know about!

mussel

Fri, 2010-12-03 17:35

I was fishing for carp at a small lake in Germany. I used a float with a small hook and 2 maggots for bait. After a while I checked my bait and a mussel sucked my hook in the shell and closed up. So I had a float with a mussel attached to it, it looked really funny and never happened again. Luckily one of my mates was there as well otherwise no one would have believed me..

Fishing off the rocks at Red Bluff, Kalbarri. Winding in to check bait and felt some weight.... thought it was seaweed.

Lifting out of water line went light and heard a splash. Checked hook and had 2 cray legs on it... So close to a good feed that night!!!

you got the turtle in! i have been diving and tried to hold onto a small turtle and had no chance so good effort to pull it in on a rod! and to catch a fish in a loop now thats wierd! rudog would have been a great fight but a big dissapointment when that fella turned up at the beach!!! and as for the crays on the line i have heard a few stories of them getting caught on a line! my uncle actually caught a huge jumbo years ago in fifty metres of water caught it on an 8/0 and a piece of herring!

Sat, 2010-12-04 10:18

A Manta ray, but the ray caught me instead. Not a chance in hell. Was trying to find the under wing missiles with a lure, and the Manta turned directly to where I placed the lure. Accidently got hooked and you should have seen how quick I got the knife to cut the braid. Still went like a bullet and lost about 25m in a flash.

By the way no cobes to be seen.

thats what you call luck what are the chances of hooking a hook through the eye of another hook!

actually thinking about it this happened last year went fishing one day with my mate in three hundred metres of water and he got snagged and lost three hundred metres of braid! he was pissed! four weeks later i went back to the same spot and hooked up his braid and got every metre of it back! rolled it onto a hand line and gave it back to him!! what are the chances!!

I was fishing the Murray

Sun, 2010-12-05 15:00

I was fishing the Murray River (SA) when I hooked a fish on a stumpjumper lure.

Assuming it was a good murray cod, I swore when I saw the lure appear with no fish on the trebles.  Damn, it got off I thought.  Then the rod buckled again and I managed to get the lure boatside.  One of the hooks had caught a brass swivel which had a meter trace and est 8kg carp connected.
