what do you use as ballast

In your (plastic) cray pot?    I have a big hunk of flat metal but want to increase it.  Thinking a short length of railway iron, but then how do I attach it????

Constructive suggestions appreciated.

I had two plastic pots in

Sat, 2014-03-29 05:16

I had two plastic pots in since just before Christmas. I have pulled one cray. Got 30 crays diving in 3 days around where the pots are.

Last Sunday, I had to dive to unhook it from a rock. For 5 whilst I was down there but none in pots.

 Old grader blade cutting

Sat, 2014-03-29 07:53

Old grader blade cutting edges cut into 2 foot lengths bolted inside and outside the bottom of the pot work a treat or you can buy old railway line fish plates from crackpots craypot supplies. I ballast mine up so I can just lift them on land, they need to be heavy or you'll constantly be snagged up especially when the swells up.
