Video footage - Jigging the Shetlands

As some of you may have seen here:

http://fishwrecked.com/forum/jigging-shetland-islands

I recently got back from a trip fishing the Shetland Islands on the Oberon, trying out some light jigging gear from Temple Reef and Jigging Master on the local species there.

I took a whole lot of video footage up there, and finally got around to editing some of it for those who are interested. The link can be found below, and I suggest watching in HD!

It is my first attempt at video editing, so go easy ;-)

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

nice video Dan,  probably not a common technique up in Shetland. I bet they were intrigued when they saw you pull that combo out!! Were they cod?

Great Vid! I purchased a Mytho LJ-510S about 6 months ago. Haven't pushed the rod too hard yet (lost a couple of fish in the process) but your vid game me a little bit more confidence in what it can do.

Paul - haha yeah, on both of those they pretty much nailed it on the drop. Was about 30m off the bottom jigging on the gold rod though. That one was a coalfish.

Robert - yep, most of the fish caught on the trip were cod, but also got plenty of coalfish, pollock etc. Certainly not a common technique over there but it seemed to do the goods!

Ahh tit takes me back

I have happy memories of fishing for cod in the north sea although jigging is by no way a new thing I was doing it nearly 40 years ago over there allbeit with home made jigs (or pirks as they where known there) made out of chrome tubing filled with lead  with a  a big  trebble on the end.  and the rods and reels where more general bottom bouncing setups then, the other guys on board wouldnt have seen anything new just more modern gear, and of course much lighter, I remeber 1 particular trip off whitby in yorkshire there was about 10 of us on board all fishing with jigs (pirks) and I think we each took home around 45 kilos of fish all cod, that was in the days before we knew about conservation of fish stocks and of course no bag limits.

It makes me think if the amatures where taking bags like that how much where the pros taking out (and there where more of them) as not many people have theire own boats over there not anything like here.....thats the reson the fisheriy is in the stae it's in now.....Hmm my mouth is watering just thinking of cod and chips!!

What a lot of cods, nah, really Dan, awesome stuff. Although I thought the record got stuck there at one stage.
