trailer help!

hi I recently purchased a 12 foot fiberglass dingy with trailer ect
noticed the bearings need doing so I took them off and took the hub to my local trailer place and he informed me they are off a valiant car over 30 years ago and are unreplacable
he said my only option is to buy a new axle new hub and new bearings with new u bolts ect. my question is that is gonna cost me 250 plus the person to do it is 2 hours labour which is gonna cost me 160 so im looking at 410 all up instead of a cheap 50 or so I thought it would cost
does anyone have any suggestions? how much am I looking at roughly for a new trailer or second hand? is it worth reparing? I only paid 1200 all up and don't really wanna keep throwing money into it

Ah yeh basically what Troy said hahaha
BUT what are the bearings, sure you might not be able to get them as a kit but probably can still get them from somewhere?
You can get trailer kits with bearings axles hub etc etc for that size for about $300 if you wanted to DIY

Bearing ID
I also would recommend changing your setup as said above, but if that is beyond the budget, take the bearings and cones (that the bearings sit inside) down to CBC or any other bearing supplier and see if they can match them. They are likley to have aceess to a wider range than the trailer supplier you visited.

Valiant Parts
Mate, you can get pretty much ALL parts for Valiants (I reckon I have bought pretty much all of them anyway!) both in Australia and ex US (same as Chrysler/Dodge), so I find it hard to believe you can't get hubs/bearings.
1) Try Richard at Midland Motor Wreckers, what he doesn't know about Valiants isn't worth knowing. Ph 9274 2394.
2) Pentastar Parts & Restorations - http://www.pentastarparts.com.au/store/
3) Plenty of other options in Oz & US, Google is your friend or PM me.
Hope it helps.

Not Valiant hubs
They are not Valiant hubs, all Valiants had 5 studs not four
Take the axle in and get them to set the new one up then its just a half hours work for you to stick it on, doing up 4 sets of bolts and putting two wheels on cannot be that hard.

Axle
Take the axle in for them to measure the length and weld the spring locaters on, they can fit the new hubs then all you have to is take it home and stick the u bolts on and fit the new wheels
Getting hubs and bearings to match what has come off would be near impossible so it is best to replace them altogether with something that parts are going to be available for in the future

Easy peasy
Bearings are simple things to fit, there was quite a bit put on the site a while back with pics showing each step, just got to remember who, could have been Rob H but not sure.
Google it if you have any doubts and ask questions on here if you get in trouble.
