torsa/trinidad or Saltiga

Guys - looking to setup a "lighter" outfit for offshore from Perth, that can double as a good northern outfit for light trolling for smaller tuna/mackies etc. ALready have a saltiga 30 and 40 overhead so am looking for something smaller to use mainly for Driftbaiting and light jigging. I have not decided on a rod yet but leaning towards something like the Jigwrex pe1-3 or the similar saltiga. Want a bit more length than the current jigrods I use as I feel a softer tip is an advantage
and also lets me use it to cast with if need be.

Any way - my current preference is for a Torsa 16N. Anyone own/used one and can give me the heads up. Main reason I am leaning that way is I already have a couple of Saltiga's and don't own a lever drag reel. Downside that I can see is weight, so the Trinidad 14 is my second preference.

Line will most likely be PE3

Go a 10kg baitcaster outfit

Go a 10kg baitcaster outfit with a longish rear handle and a TD Blue Backer 300 Millionaire. My preferance for rod would be the Jig Wrex 510 PE3.

How do these compare to a calcutta

Wed, 2008-04-09 09:02

HOnsu - I have an old calcutta 400 lying around that is pretty much new, would a set of carbontex washers in that bring it up to speed with a blue backer or is there a heap more difference.

ive got a trinidad 20 matched to t-curve 200 overhead, running 30 pound braid. Awsome little combo so light and the speed is a real bonus. I would highly recommend the trinidad they are so light.

cheers bolts

Ive got a Black Sheep...but

Ive got a Black Sheep...but unfortunately they are discontinued, well not really. They're a limited run product, kinda like being limited edition.

The Cal 400 with carbontex will only give it a smoother drag when screwed right up. The TD Luna, BlueBacker and Blacksheep all are stronger and more powerful than the original Millionaire series.

As for rods, I would run it on a 10kg rod, coz braid are quite unforgiving. More so if you're gonna troll with it. Got a 6ft, long handle 10kg rod.
