tm 260 on a barcrusher

Im fitting out my mates 620 barcrusher with his new furuno that will be running a TM260. Im stuck on the transducer angle due to the transom being vertical.

Im running the same tranny on my trailcraft and was going to set it up like mine  using 1 wedge that has the trailing edge slightly lower and l get a great reading at speed. The difference between the boats is the transon on the trailcraft is slight forward of vertical so l dont need alot of wedge angle.

Now with the Barcrusher and the vertical transom lve used the 3 wedges and l still cant get the trailing edge lower. Best l can come up is flat with the transom using  2 wedges and a 10mm packer in at the top. For me to get what l want l still need to pack it out at top another 5 mm.

Can you get shims for these trannys that give a better angle or is it a case of packing it out like lm doing.

Is anyone running the same tranny and how did you over come this. If your got pics even better l would love to see them.

Heres some pics of what lve had to do. Tranny is only mounted loosely atm until l can come up with a solution

I hope it all makes sense. Ha

Cheers Paul

Yeah 3 shims came with it. didnt even get it level. Did some more work on it since and it looks like l need a shim 30mm at top and 5mm at bottom. Found some starboard in the shed and will linish it down to make a shim.

Drill some new holes in the holding bracket.

Sat, 2016-02-13 20:52

how about drilling some new holes in the holding bracket. The top holes could,be red rolled twenty mm forward of present position and that would tilt the transducer down.

Go the wedge. New holes means fewer wedges. Plenty of stainless in that region.

 Thanks for the offer mitch.

Thanks for the offer mitch. Yeah lve got spare shims from my tranny. Not keen on having 5 shims in there. Makes the bracket mount to far off the transom and l will need bolts atleast 70 mm long. Would rather have it closer. So it looks like l need to make my own shim.

They should supply different angled shims in packaging instead of 3 all the same.

I wish I knew how to post a photo on one of these responses. I have two transducers on the back of my 780 but the difference being where you have the pins going through I have slots and bolts. With two bolts on either side it allows the transducer to be locked in position at the angle needed and never a problem.

 Just an update for anyone

Sun, 2016-02-21 20:39

Just an update for anyone with a barcrusher looking to fit a TM260.

Telferfish was on the money. 4 shims is the go. l got a perfect reading at WOT 35knts +. Not a trace of interference or loss of bottom.

I was quite dumbfounded at the performance.

up at Exmouth at the mo mate but  maybe pm Mitch 88 as he offered holth some of the spares he had. It was my boat he sorted out and after coming back from Ningaloo I can only say he did a top job reads a treat at speed and out in the deep drop realms as well.
