swan river bream on hardbody lure

hi all,
i have recently been getting into hardbody lure fishing for swan river bream with a fish caught every time, the issue is they are only small, 12-18cm. i use a light rod and reel combo 5Lb braid and 6Lb mono leader (wich i use for trout and perch) and use a white bait minnow design with a yellow back and a black spot around the back of the head. i use a slow retrieve WITHOUT twitching and cast into snags and reeds, it seems when i do use the twitch and retrive they are scared off, could any one please offer me some suggetions on how to land that big one.

million dollar question
bream are notoriously fussy so it pays to experiment. Also the fish will school together of similar size so if you catch one move on.
sometimes big bream will only hit a lure if it is paused for a good 10 seconds or ripped in or slow rolled, sometimes they just slam them regardless of retrieve.
for the bigger fish I would look at variables such as tide, time of day, try to match the hatch and look at your habitat. You may just have to cast deep into the snags to interest the fish.
our last bream trip (not the swan) we were plagued by small fish.
try a different lure and the blades/vibes such as TT or R2S micro vibes are great cause they sink deep and can be used with multiple retireves to deadly effect.
but mate practice makes perfect so just keep trying, better to be catching some fish rather than none
some good priced lures include the atomic range and the good ol halco have pulled mobs of fish, you dont need big dollars to spend on lures.
good luck and your gear setup is OK

Sounds like your doing ok. You just need a few fish to
get your confidence up.
Ive been persuaded to use eco gear sx40's from guys that solely target blacks and i find there reasons solid. cast well, great action, good colours, strong hooks and catch fish
After buying a range of lures, the halcos laser pros, river 2 sea vibs, and daiwa shiners stand out.
Lost a beauty of a fish last week due to not replacing the daiwa shiner hooks with quality owner hooks
Try a lighter leader down to 3lb for spooky fish. And with your lure action, Ive found a slow retrieve produces my best fish.
ps did well at ascot last week.

lots of blowies
i went for a morning fish today across from the mitchell freeway near como. ive fished there before, knowing that there are many blowies that habitat this area but i thought i might aswell give it another go. much to my dissapoinment i got harrased by blowies again. i tried using plastics but changed after the first cast because there was only half the amount of plastic i through out then what i reeled in. i changed to hard bodies but that didnt seem to make much differance.
ive fished the swan many times before trying to find bream ot flathead but never had much luck. anyone that catches these fish from land deserves a medal i reckon

i got 4 over 35cm in as many
i got 4 over 35cm in as many casts in the canning river early early sunday morning (before sun up) before swanfish weigh in, then got smashed by blowies and SMALL flatties (after sun came up) all Landbased captures
Baby vibe 43's are really getting them at the moment, most hook ups came on the pause or a very very slow retrieve with no action, so be ready to strike... lots of 18-20cm fish around aswell. All my best results have come when its dark or just before the sun rise. Ive found when there are other people around using bait (prawns, mussels etc) that the bream wont bite as often and spook very easily, hense fishing early or late hours, gotta be keen to get those cracker fish.
