Stradic FJ got in the water - now making noise
Submitted by Jelle on Sat, 2012-07-21 19:05
Hey guys,
my stradic FJ 5000 ended up in the water a couple of days ago. It wasn' in there for more than 8-10sec. I gave it a rinse with fresh water, cleaned it up, put some of the grease in the maintenance port and it appeared fine. Didn't use it for a day or two and now I picked it up it's not smooth any more. It's not really a grinding sound, more of a constant soft noise when I turn the handle.
Do I need to send it for service, or can I take it apart myself? It's pretty new, only bought it couple of months ago..
Cheers!

Just to be safe
Send it it for a service not a big cost and better than destroying a new reel.

Mate, I dunked two reels a couple of weeks ago and pulled them totally apart sprayin each part with wd40/crc/inox and re greasin and oilin as I reassembled, plenty of saltwater gets in, its the only way to ensure the reels good, gota do it immedietly
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Yeah I lubricated just about every accessible part and it's still not as smooth as it should. I'll call the shimano service center tomorrow? Is there just the one in australia? In new south wales? Geez.. how long will it take to get my reel back?
May need to get a replacement for upcoming trips - hows that for an excuse.. :)

line roller bearing
its most likely the line roller bearing, its the quickest thing to go on most reels due to salt intrusion and makes an annoying constant noise when winding line onto the reel. cheers

Yeah could be.. I've only had the reel for about 6months though. But then again, if you drown it.. Yewie's kindly offered to have a look at it for me so we should soon find out!
