Still no crays

Went out on the weekend looking for crays. Pulled two pots but nothing so pulled another 5 or so and still nothing. You guys need to start putting them on better ground or try different bait maybe. Might put some pots in myself this weekend.

I know what you mean

I was out behind the sisters off Rocky and all the pots I pulled were empty. I ended up repositioning two of them to a spot that I reckon will produce some crays.

Just a bit bored at work haha. Wondered how many would pick up on the joke. I know one things for sure I'm not diving for crays anymore. I would look pretty juicy to a shark I recon.

3 weeks no crays

Mon, 2013-11-25 16:40

We have been setting our pots for 3 weeks now and all we have caught are 2 tiny crays (had to have a second look to see they weren't yabbies. We are on good ground and a diver friend has dived on the same area and snared his bag limit in 30 odd minutes, he is telling me there are heaps of crays there but they are right back under the ledges. In my humble opinion the crays have not shed their shells yet and whilst I believe that this will happen very soon the sods are not venturing out of their hidey hole to feed at the moment. What a pain, I guess it is just a matter of waiting for another couple of weeks till they cast of their shells then come out to feed and harden up the new shells. Well that's my hope any way. Has anyone else got any ideas as to what may be happening along the local coast, to the divers have you seen any cast of shells on your dives on the near shore reefs? Also to the divers be careful guys there is a big GW out there .

Quick question

Mon, 2013-11-25 21:19

I caught a couple of bolt cutters (NW blowfish) the other day and I thought there must be a use for these bloody things, then it came to me cray bait.
Has an one slashed the bodies of bolt cutters and used them for cray bait.

Cant hurt to try. Standard

Cant hurt to try. Standard blowies are the best bait for crabs in pots.

Heaps of crays in close

Mon, 2013-11-25 21:59

Been diving in Rockingham area last month and crays plentiful. Four weeks ago all reds. Two weeks ago 1/4 whites. This weekend gone majority whites so should be getting good catches in pots soon.

Agree with that

Mon, 2013-11-25 22:36

Yep I've got to agree with that statement Joyce they cost a cent either, oily rag over the transom then a quick dab with the trusty prawn net and there ya go crab bait as fresh as
