the expensive ones last longer and i find they catch more fish (accidentally) if the squid are on they'll all get hit but if it's slow then advantage $$$ anthing between 12-20 bucks a jig gets good quality without the big pricetag

many things

besides the price, the more expensive jigs (yo zuri, evergreen, yamashitas, daiwa and shimanos) last longer..

plus they have better movement in the water...

invest in a couple of good ones and you wont regret it...

go see the guys at Oceanside Tackle/ Tackleworld and they will point you in the right direction...

pink jigs work the best for me..

Lot's mate, save any money

Lot's mate, save any money you might spend on 'specific squidding gear' and spend it on quality jigs, because that's the bit the squid sees and as the boys previously mentioned, when it's slow going the quality jigs shine!

Ok thanks everyone, I've decided to get one of the yamashita jigs, which colours work best? I'll be squidding mostly in the river and Cockburn sound
Cheers

Which colour works best has an endless answer mate, there are too many variables. As a rule, get a bright one (pink etc) for murky water or fading light and a more natural colour (tiger prawn green) for clear days.

The better the jig the longer it lasts and the more squid it will catch. They are designed and tested buy people that devote their lives to catching squid. They not only last longer they, sink right work with small twitches and sharp aggressive ones, they sit on the bottom with the tail up and not roll over like the cheap ones, and the hooks/ swivels are very strong so you dont lose your jig to a snag easily.

As for colour check your PM.

Lol you lose more jigs to snags with stronger hooks as they don't have any give and your line snaps before the hooks bend.

Some times but ive seen cheap jigs swivel eyes pull out under a light load while trying to pull it off a snag. Ill take the stronger hooks and swivels and the bigger chance of losing a jig then not catching half the amount of squid with a cheapy. wouldnt you?

That wasn't the point I was trying to get across. It wasn't catch rate, it was that the better hooks cause you to lose more snagged lures.

id rather have 6 razor backs

id rather have 6 razor backs for 5 bucks then a 30 dollar eclick, i love the razor backs, i reckon there no differnce, i have used yo zuris and they seem to have the same catch rate, and with 6 for the price of one, doesnt matter if ur snagged, also i have had a razor back in green for ages and caught lots of squid and got it out of many snags(hooks bent out) as flangies said, stronger hooks=easier to loose. i like green for cloudy days, orange for bright, and pink as alround, night time pinks work really well 2, just my opinion, maybe i used the expensives ones wrong but yeah just what i have found
