hey,
i am looking into getting a small portable generator to use for over nighters at the beach. everything i seem to be finding is too big and expensive.
was hoping someone could point me in a new direction.

What are you planning to power
If it's just for lighting just about any cheap geny will do. But if ya planning on running a Engel/Waeco you'll need to have a inverter/converter inbuilt to protect the fridge from power surge. I'm no expert on this matter but have been warned about using a genset without a protection device, or you'll do damage to the eletric motor on the fridge.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

just for lights
Its just for lights and maybe a stereo. I am willing to spend $100-150.
I looked in bunnings and again on the website, cant seem to find anything that cheap.
cheapest i have found was at supercheap auto for $150, but it didnt look very durable since the one on display had 2 broken legs. lol
thanks for the feedback

I've got a little 750 w 2
I've got a little 750 w 2 stroke that would do the trick. I won it a few years ago only started it once about 6 months ago, ran fine.

be prepared
take generater take extra fuel...for lights some good led lights around now...stereo IPOD doc on batteries...maybe other options available...good battery set up with solar panel...from experience generator plus fuel plus extension cords plus lights plus stereo can add up.
In saying that had a 850w as one of my first from Home Hardware - ran fridge, lites etc for a few years for us...now upgraded to 2Kva Honda to suit family needs...those cheaper ones are okay if you look after them...get what you pay for

Tanks on the money
It might pay to go down the solar powered 12v route.no noise,no fuel to cart around and some camp sites don't like 2 stroke or any generators going.having said that you get what you pay for.test it by making it boil a kettle and see what happens.
This habit is getting expensive!
