Shimano Spheros

i was wandering if you guys could help me out with a thew questions

. how much 50ld braid can they hold?

. what type of rod would go good with the spheros (is a normal 12ft beach rod too big)?

. and also how easy are they to cast /how far can u cast with them?

any help would be appreciated

50lb braid?  Plenty, more

50lb braid?  Plenty, more then you will likely need.

If it is the good stuff, with the dia of 12lb mono, it will take 550m.

I don't know if you have looked at the Shimano page. If not here is the link
http://www.shimanofish.com.au/catalog/fish/products/group_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302053868&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181791&bmUID=1207203682811

I haven't tried a Spheros out, but from what I have seen they should cast well.
Whether you need a 12 foot rod will depend on where you are fishing - but I would think they would match up okay with that reel.

GT's

If it's GT's you don't want to be using a 12 foot rod , 9 foot max and something with BALLS as casting up to 200g dumbells and big GT's a 12 footer will kill ya .

JMHO , after tangling with some up there .

As MAv said a rod around

Thu, 2008-04-03 15:22

As MAv said a rod around 8-9ft and plenty of guts is what you want.

You can also do an upgrade on the spheros for about $30 I think, Ryan from Oceanside may be able to tell you more.

Top Reel!!

Yeh mate i have two spheros 14000's and they are one of the smoothest reels i have ever used. As far as catching big GT's on them... You are talking to someone that has had fun with the big buggers on more than one occasion. As far as the drag on them go.... replace the washes with carbon tech washes as soon as you get it. One of the first fish that i caught on the spheros was a 20 plus kg at Coral Bay.
I actually run 65lb braid on it and really happy with the set up. Im actually in the process of replacing a spool that a drunken mate lost and will be putting 50lb on it. For the price of them and for chasing GT's... I recommend them.. Check out some of the pics on the 2nd or 3rd page of Pilbara Pirates of the GT's.

Im pretty sure the upgrade is the extra bearing. But do the wash's. Carbon tech or carbon fibre.... one of the Guru's will know what im on about.

Thu, 2008-04-03 16:11
