Schooling Whiting - video link added

 Hi guys

Just a heads up to anyone going past Binningup that there are a few big schools of whiting schooling up right in front of the boat launching area and swimming beach. I went for a dive amoungst them today with the Go-Pro - it is a pretty shit video due to not getting down there until after the sea breeze came in, but I will try to upload it to Youtube anyway and will post a link. There are thousands in the school (some are big!!!), and would be great for the kids to have a dive amoungst them (only 5 - 10m from shore). I dont know how long they will hang around for, but they have been there for the past few days and if they move too far along the beach the pros will net them...

Would be great fun with poppers....

I remember staying at the caravan park there when I was younger and catching big yellowfin out of those schools just a few metres offshore. Would love to go back someday to target them with poppers, nice knowing they still frequent the area

I have the YouTube link to the video - sorry, the video is terrible, but will give you an idea of the size of one of the schools.... (It was much clearer through the mask...)

if the link doesn't  work just search Binningup whiting in YouTube - it should be the first one to come up... About 2 min in length...

The schools are still there. I took the GoPro down today as the water was a lot clearer, but the battery was flat in it..... I cast soft plastics, a chrome slice, a spinner, a Prawn Star, but only got a few hits on the spinner, so I ripped the chrome slice through and jagged a couple... My whiting lure technique leaves a lot to be desired..... I might see if I can find a couple of poppers and give that a go...

tassy, it is alive at the moment! We went for a drive from Binningup to the Australind cut along the beach this arvo and there were schools of fish everywhere! I took the throw net and got 10 Yellowfin whiting in 1 cast (keeping the 8 largest at about 27cm each), 20 Mullet in another cast, and a mix of about 100 Tarwhine (I think) and whiting in another cast all of which I released... There were birds diving on Whitebait right up at the shore, and big schools of Mullet and whiting cruising along...

Now everyone will be down there with nets and god knows what else lol.
Seriously though thank you for posting up the vid. A few members have put up sounder shots showing whiting schools, after seeing your vid it is easy to see why such images are formed on sounders and what exactly you are looking at when you see these images.

To me your video confirms that the images are exactly what the sounder shots claim they are, images of whiting schools.

Thanks to the people who posted the sounder shots of whiting schools and to you for showing just what the sounder shot looks like under the water, a good education has been had
