At this time of year, I just

If you are shore based at this time of year, I just take my light 7 foot spin rod with 8lb braid, and bike it out of the settlements to the first bit of reef with a few holes in it, some deeper water off the back and some white wash if possible. I just then walk around all of that particular area casting small metals or shallow diving swimmers (i've never had much luck with poppers) with quick retrieves. If I don't get anything I move on. I'll do that all day. Likely to get skippy, herring, tailor and a salmon or ytk if you're lucky. Anywhere from like parker point west and back around the north to like little armstrong bay.

At night I just take a few mulies down to the beach on the south side of the natural jetty. I've always caught good tailor there, way above metro average size. I've also seen footage of guys catch sambos off the tip of natural jetty from a boat. Either baitcast or anchor the bait with a sinker (only down side of using a sinker is massive rays). Alternatively, take the mulies around to the reef around fays bay, from experience you're a chance of a salmon (always seem to be the injured fish holding up) and have seen 2 dhuies caught from this reef here at night.

The boaties on this site will fill you in on those options

When you arrive head up to the Rangers office opposite the Dome Cafe. They have booklits on the front desk regarding the info your after.

Plenty of herring around atm. Also managed a few Tailor on poppers the other night.

They were taking baits consistantly so swapped to a popper and got lucky.
