Rod recommendation 12ft graphite rod spin

Howdy,

Just wondering whats out there these days for throwing 60-85g metals on 30lb braid. Looking for something in the 12ft graphite range.

budget under $200 and will put a stradic 8000 on it.

If anyone can help it will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

Shimano Aerolite. Have had two now, latest 12 foot. I wouldn't put an 8000 on it, I run an Aird 5500 and that is heaps. Not impressed with the reel at all, lacks grunt compared to others in the price range.

 Have to agree, great rods

Have to agree, great rods for the price. I use some of the 13ft for spinning lures in the surf, stick baits poppers etc as well, both the 8-12kg and the 10-15kg in 3 piece. Easy to transport and well balanced for casting with counterweight in the but, can punch lures out into the sea breeze all day. Mine have been punished, fishing several days a week and casting weights well beyond the recommendation.

12ft Spin

I don't know if you can get them for $200, but my 12 ft Live Fibre is the best rod I've owned for biggish Taylor, Salmon and smallish Sharks. I use an old 8000 Spheros and it is my favourite combo.

 Yep Aerowave. I've got this

Yep Aerowave. I've got this one at present.

 Model: 19AWG1203
- Length: 12'
- Line Weight: 6 - 10kg
- Lure Weight: 28 - 100g
- Butt Assembly: Shimano / X-Shrink Split Eva C-Weight

Had the 13 before this that copped a hammering for years befor the guides went .Had a Daiwa that cost twice as much and the casting action didn't suit me.

For a 10kg rod, it has a surprising amount of power.

If you can get hold of one

If you can get hold of one the old Lemax President or President Royal were great shore blanks. I liked the cork grips and they will last as long as EVA if treated right. As good as any modern blank in that spend range.

I'll assume you know what you're doing, 12ft is pretty long for spinning even into the surf break. 9'6 - 11ft would cover a good 'sea bass' range and may open up more options. @12ft you might find you're looking at lighter beach rod blanks than actual spin rods.
