Ramp Trouble - Ocean Reef

Came back in to Ocean Reef around 2:30pm on Sunday.  Probably around 12 boats idling around waiting their turn to get onto the ramp. Being Ocean Reef, normally doesn’t take too long.

Some bloke in an 18-19 foot boat drives past us all, ignoring the glares, and drops his mate off…presumably to go get the car/trailer and get his boat out before the others that are dutifully queuing.

Just as I pull into the jetty, he’s backing his car/trailer down the centre of the ramps.  Of course, they are not really wide enough to do that, so he effectively blocks one ramp.  The guy being blocked just looks on….pretty peeved that this joker has more or less just got to the marina, yet is blocking him from getting his boat out when he’s done the right thing and queued like everyone else.

Credit due, the fellow drives the boat up on the trailer with no fuss.  Now, anyone who launched at Ocean Reef on the weekend will know there was a lot of weed on the ramps.  This is where his trouble started.  Try as he may, he couldn’t get any traction on the weed.  Even pulling it away didn’t work, as by now it was ground in and slimy.

I now walk up to get my car/trailer, and drive down.  He’s still sending blue smoke off the tyres, despite his mate jumping all over the back of the car…..nobody’s helping.  The guy being blocked just looks on.  I reverse down and winch the boat up….he’s still not going anywhere.  Guy being blocked now visibly cheesed.

At this stage the guy being blocked realises that he isn’t going anywhere while this dill is wearing out a set of back tyres.  He eventually hooks a rope from his trailer to his car, as I drive off.  I heard that he eventually got out.

I can’t help feeling there’s a lesson here.  This bloke thought he could short cut an orderly queue, and instead blocked up a ramp for what must have been 15-20 minutes, plus probably ruined a set of back tyres.

Sounds like there were a few people that thought they'd be smarter than everybody else that got stuck in the end. That's karma for you I guess. Moral of the story?... Don't be a douchebag at the ramp and just wait your turn.

Ha, Hows this bloke, in the morning I was walking down to the boat there and some guys fangs it past me near the ramp, I'm thinkin "shit, the ocean must owe him some money or something" he had an angry look on his face. Anyway, he pulled into the bay slammed reverse and raced down the ramp like an idiot, I just gave him a stare and got into my boat after having a friendly chat to the other people heading out.
7 hours later we were heading in to see a bloke waving a jacket at us about 6 kms out. Ha, it was the idiot at the ramp, wasnt so angry/unfriendly this time as his motor couldn't start. He wanted a tow in, reluctantly I anchored up and tied him to us while I radioed Sea Rescue to tow him back in. He didnt have a radio, mobile or an anchor to pull him up, what a d*#khead. He just sat there having a beer waiting with his Mrs and get this, after 45 min didn't even offer me a beer for wasting my time.
Same moral lesson there I reckon Belly Fish.

If I had come in after the guy waiting at the top (who evetnually helped), I would have offered him my spot on a clear ramp and left the bugger stuck in the weed.  Dickhead!  Good on the bloke who was so patient and did the right thing in the end.  There are a couple examples of the two extremes of ramp behaviour right there.

WTF

How can anyone put to sea with no anchor, radio or phone but plenty of piss I bet. This muppet should have been issued with some sort of fine or ban as di$%#eds like this just endanger other people. Even the best maintained motor can let you down but surley you should be prepared for it.

yep you see some real pigs at launching ramps and then you see the other side of the coin when people go right out of their way to help a fellow boatie example last year at point perron ramp to old blokes (70ish) having trouble pulling their tinnie out with a holden s/wagon group of fit young blokes standing around making all sorts of comments about these two "old bastards" holding everyone up no one offering to help just standing around bitching.  Young guy (20ish) at the back of the cue sees whats going on unhitches his trailer drives down to the ramp through bushes etc crowed start bitching whats he think hes doing,  what he does is drive face up to the struggling old blokes hooks arope around the sub frame pulls them out total time 10min tops. The group of bitching bastards could have all got together and helped by pushing the old blokes car out but no it's better to stand back a moan and bitch than help some one

i love it when karma strikes.

I don't mind helping out the people who do the right thing... It's the people who have little regard for others then expect a hand after their attitudes get them stuck that give me the S&@. But it's good to see the young fella go and help the old boys get their car out.
