Ramp Karma - Mindarie 30/09/12
Witnessed a bit of ramp Karma yesterday. Not that I would wish this on anybody...but....
As we were coming into port from the west a brand new seafarer was at (what looked like) WOT running along the face of the rockwall heading North seemingly to cut us off and get to the ramp before us. He would have been 10m away from the rocks all the way as he swung tight around the groin and proceeded at about 15knots all the way in.
"Look at that idiot" I said to my deckie, "where are the speed cameras when you need them?"
He shot all the way in probably busting heaps of lines from the guys fishing the rock wall.
Anyway we get inside the marina and sure enought this guy is in front of us as several boats wait in line for an open spot to get out. He finds his spot then we head to ours next to him. I think nothing more of it until while I am winching the boat up I hear this almighty "THUD" as this guy drops his huge glass boat onto the concrete. Apparently his cable had snapped but you have to ask with a boat that size why didn't he have a solid turnbuckle on it.
God knows how he got it back on the trailer as aparently he was trying to use a little skinny rope to get it on (no chance) that thing would have weighed 2 tonnes. No doubt there would have been a massive delay getting boats out after that as he was across two lanes, leaving only one retrieve lane until he got it out of there.
There was a heap of bystanders offering advice and helping him out so I reasoned the best thing for me to do was get my boat out of there and leave some room for the next guy to get out. Though the next driver would have to have used some pretty neat reversing skills to get a trailer back in around this guys car and boat.
Anyone know if he got it back up on the trailer and how he did it? (Crane job is what I was thinking).
Cheers

That's a feel good story
That's a feel good story hahaha. Boaties driving along the rock wall that close to rock fisherman gives me the s$&ts... Not everyone has the means for a boat so I always remember back to when I had no boat and that was me perched on the rocks. The douchebag got what he deserved.

The old addage
Less Haste = More Speed
If the guy had maybe slowed down a bit and not been in such a hurry he might have taken the time to hitch a chain or a turnbuckle to his boat instead of leaving it just on the winch. I guess he would have been stuck for quite a while waiting for help to get the boat on.
I was tempted to take a pic but thought better of it. The poor guy was embarassed enough as it was.
Hull looked brand new and I'm also guessing he was tring to impress his female deckie with all the speed in and around the marina.
Cheers

Karma can be a real bitch
Karma can be a real bitch like that. I always treat people with the utmost respect on the water. You never know if that person may be the one who is there to save your life one day.
