Pflueger Supreme Xts

I was recently at oceanside and saw the supreme , it felt stunning and is certainly on my maybe list for 2500 size, will be running 8lb braid. Despite the smaller line capacity than i am used to, I couldnt really find a downside for the reel.

Does anyone here have one and how do they go?

Will the carbon fibre handle be prone to breakages?

At the moment i'm tossing up between Twin power and Supreme, the twin power ends up at roughly the same price so price isnt an issue.

Hopefully putting on a T curve 2-4kg

Any and all info very much appreciated

Yeh.....Ive had a Luvias 2500....2 wks and I sold it. Probably alrite for under 10lb but the way I fish....its not gonna last long enough. They feel too plastic like, even tho its not plastic....

Bingbing on here bought a 2000S Supreme XTS and running 6lb, its awesome for light tackle stuff. He's running it on a Egi Force rod.

Why do you reckon its only alright for under 10lb?

What you end up replacing it with?

Unless it is impervious to kryponite, then its not good enough for him. Mr Chin puts his gear through more punishment than us mere mortals would contemplate doing......if you are happy with the reel, how you use it and its performance, then who cares?

Wrong user acc...

Ive replaced it with a Certate 2500 and 2500R

Ive push my reels hard and even though Im only running 8-10lb, the Luvias didnt have a solid feel to it. When Im confident with the reels I push it to the limit. Some people reckons for 10lb I running as much drag as they would for 20lb!!

I do however have an Exist which for 2kg work is fine. It has the same type of body and rotor as the Luvias but for 2kg line its adequate.

I also prefer abit of weight in the reel as well.....hey Huggs?? hehe

Fair enough i suppose

personally I reckon you could run 20lb cos you got that 7kg of drag (im pretty sure its 7 unless thats just the 3000)

Im sure the gears would hold up for a fair while (depending on what YOUR doing of course Tongue out)

Dont the 2500 certates have more plastic because they dont have the machined handle?

Not detesting you or anything just curious, each to their own opinion

Didnt say I was using 20lb

Thu, 2009-11-26 19:21

Didnt say I was using 20lb line, I was making a comparison of the amount of drag I run on 10lb braid to what other people would run on 20lb braid.

Just becoz a reel has 7kg max drag doesnt mean you can use all that. Its just a guide line of what you have available to use. Have you ever checked how much 2kg of drag is straight off the reel??

My 4 Certates have bugger all plastic parts on them, apart from cosmetic covers. Yes the standard Certates come with folding handles, even those are solidly built. Ive also got the 2500R which comes with machined handle, as well as the 2506 Finesse.

There is actually a fair bit of difference between a $400 reel and a $600 one....

Yeah sorry was meant to

Thu, 2009-11-26 19:35

Yeah sorry was meant to write up to 20lb.

With the certates i was just referring to the standard models and I certainly agree with you that they are solid reels...but would that folding handle not decrease its solidness abit? The main difference between the certates and luvias is the gearing hey?

I can definitely see where you are coming from cos I would imagine certate gearing would hold up a lot longer than a luvias with frequent hardcore use.

I just think the Luvias isnt so bad that you would totally exclude it, I still think they are great reels for the price.

I havent had a play with the Supremes yet but from what James tells me they feel nice, and they certainly do look the goods.

How strong are those carbon fibre handles Honsu? Handle a good knock on a rock?

One downfall to them from what I have read is the line capacity but I suppose you would get away with it running light braids.

Yes I understand most

Thu, 2009-11-26 21:04

Yes I understand most folding handles comes loose after a period of time. Ive had an Airity with folding handle for over 2yrs and it didnt loosen up one bit. Needless to say the Certates will be the same.

No I didnt totally dis the Luvias completely, just not my preference of reel compare to even the Twinpower.

There's alot more difference than just the gearing between the Luvias and Certate.

Luvias - ultralight weight Zaion body, digigear but not hardened carbon steel as in the Certate.

Certate - heavy duty full metal contruction, digigear and hardened carbon steel main gear. fully supported and silent oscillator drive gear.

The Carbon fibre handles on the Pflueger Supreme XTS are plenty strong enough. You are just fishing light line on the Supreme XTS, so no need to winch hard on the handle. They look smick also.

i purchased the pflueger

Thu, 2009-11-26 18:37

i purchased the pflueger extreme xts for the tackle shack about 6 months ago. Have just recently changed to braid and am running 8lb. It is the best light reel ive personally bought. I mainly use it for bream, whiting and herring. In my opinion it's a top/ strong reel that you now you can rely on. Touch wood to this day there hasn't been 1 problem with it.

My take!

Thu, 2009-11-26 20:09

There's also an older reel called the Supreme XT (probably the reel Dave has)...mustard yellow colour...another nice solidly built reel from the Pflueger range. The Supreme "XT" is the yellow one with the same body but machined handle and deep spool!

The Supreme "XTS" is very NEW however, just released, dark gunmetal colour one with carbonfibre handle and EVA knob, shallow finesse spool.....very nice indeed!

Flangies, we got more Supreme "XTS" coming in hopefully tomorrow. As for the Luvius, nice reel "out of the box" but they need a pre-service to start with and keep up the maintenance as they can suffer with use i've found (I had one and sold it)

The new Twinpowers are nice, far better than the old model but side by side comparison is hard. The XTS is a finesse reel, ie ultralight weight, very smooth finessse drag (max 3kg). The Twinpower however is a deep spool, heavier duty construction for heavier braid work so yeh different use!

With 8lb stuff Flangie, i'd go the Supreme XTS personally, the handle is very strong so no issue at all!

Thanks ryan and honsu, was just a little worried of the handle is all. and realistically how often do you use more than 150m of braid anyway in a light fishing situation.

Alright thanks guys i think i know where i'm going to buy the supreme from ;)

Sales dont just come from inside the shop
