Perth Boat Show

Anybody go to the Perth Boat Show?

We went last Thursday and found it to be pretty good, but the $14 for entry was pretty steep along with the $10 for parking. There was quite an array of boats and stalls and the fact you could get beer and wine for the walk around was great. I thought the display from the Ranger camping guys was pretty good compared to the tackle guys next to them, who's gear smelt like it had been in the back of a warehouse for a very long time. Unfortunately didn't get to speak to the hotbite guys as they were really busy with customers, even though I'm looking forward to the september magazine which features my first article.

The Haines boats were awesome along with the trailcraft display. Well setup and organised, even thou it was pretty pricey for admission. I thought the Hillaries boat show was just as good considering it was free, just not quite as much range, JMO though.

Rumours abound

Tue, 2005-08-23 15:10

Heard on the grape vine that one particular WA "Fishing Identity” vented his spleen on their website forum about how bad the BIA Boat Show was…..bad mouth a few crew from what I understand….alas the organisers (BIA) heard about this and has since suggested that Industry suppliers should reconsider their sponsorship/support of this outfit…..”if you support them, you are not supporting BIA”…..
I recon the Boston whaler might be about the be REPRO….
I’m sure they can shoot the next DVD from a tinnie

Rumours aye?

Interesting.. I read on fishing wa that R*** was quite happy with the show and thought it was good.. Unless it was his fishing buddy who has a known mouth for trouble?

Boat Show Rumour - Cheers Ryan

Wed, 2005-08-24 09:42

Thats what I thought Ryan. I read your comments as being full of praise for the show and thought myself that it was setup brilliantly. The only drawback I saw was the price of admission for a family group. But for an individual, $14 is not overly expensive in the scheme of anything and you probably shouldn't be going if its of concern. But for those people that can't afford it then there is always the Hillaries show, which has less boats, but is free and has a lot of similar features. I thought the Hillaries show was excellent and was almost as good, even thou there were no tackle store displays, which is probably a good thing for my hip pocket.

I take it if it wasn't you saying 'dont bother' then it may have been another fishing wa identity? or is there no truth to this rumour?

Rumours!

Wed, 2005-08-24 15:10

It wasn't Corriea or myself that made the original comment, the thread was deleted and rightly so, I would rather leave it at that.

I have been to every Boat Show excluding Hillary's nearly every year!

I will still continue to do so and there is another Boating and Fishing show coming from the East Coast that will be running around Easter time. I'll be going to that one and it's free entery to my knowledge for punters (No further details) Just another one added to my list of shows to go to :)

Thanks Ryan

Cheers for clearing that up Ryan.

Love going to the shows myself to see what's new out and about and to continue the dream of owning a nice 24 foot fibre walkaround.. Something not too dissimilar that you manage to cruise around in everynow and then :)

Be interested to see what the east coast has to offer which is different from what we've got.

New Boat Show and Rumours!

Wed, 2005-08-24 18:21

No probs Adam!

Yeh I'm curious to find out more also, supposibly they are well set up in the East Coast and at this stage Perth metro doesn't have a Boating and Fishing show so well needed in my opinion. Mandurah is good but a lot of the general public cant make it.

More the better!

Last note, FWA Media has Challenge Marine as a full sponsor and supporter. The boat is still supplied to FWA and will continue, the managment big boss "confirmed" this to me today!

Cheers

Rumour all cleared up

Wed, 2005-08-24 18:26

All good Ryan. Best let sleeping dogs lie and thats the end of the issue. I know what you mean about the Mandurah show as it's a long way to drive to check out something I can't afford, even thou the interest is there. Cheers for clearing up the situation and letting us know what the deal was.

Certainly look foward to another show, can't get enough of them in my opinion and going to look through showroom floors just isn't an option yet. :(

Adam

True Mitch/Thanks Salmo

Thu, 2005-08-25 10:19

Yeh thats fair enough Mitch.. Everyone's entitled to their opinion and they are more than welcome to express it here.. I have a fair bit of respect for Ryan as a fisho and it seems he has done the right thing by trying to clear the air a little and protecting his own interests.. Which he is certainly entitled to do. What I hope doesn't happen is that this turns into an attack thread or something similar. In the interest of keeping it civil, which certainly doesn't mean you can't say what you want, just to ensure that this doesn't turn into a us vs fwa forum as whilst we may be seen as a competitor, its about fishing not sledging.

I thank you for informing us regardless salmo, in no way should you feel sorry for what you have said as it was a rumour and now it has been resolved through peaceful/diplomatic measures rather than the innuendo continuing into an all out fwa attack.

Bucket fish

Fri, 2005-08-26 12:07

I deckied on a charter boat years ago around and out from Magnetic Island Qld. We had a group of 5 Yanks from Florida, on a 3 day trip....well the action was some what quiet...with one mouthy bloke bitching the whole time about the fact there was no Blues (or stripes for that matter)and they should have gone further north to Cairns (closer to the shelf) and spent their money there...on day 2 his mates had had enough. That morning while he was washing up, and I was lacing baits, he yelled up that he wanted his rod set up with new shock leader and tuna skip bait. While I was setting up the outriggers and teasers the boys attached a damaged heavy duty 9kg downrigger paravane to his wiz bang Penn International and sat the rig on the back edge of the marlin board, with the reel set in free spool and rod in # 2 bucket . As he walked up on deck to see that all was in order…to his liking… his mates pushed the paravane off the back with a boat hook.

Well you should have seen him moved, that fast he tripped over the chummer bin…getting tuna guts and fish oil all over his nice white shirt…got to the chair…(no stand up back then) and hit the strike button….lucky he was in the chair coz he would have gone over the back, as the paravane bit into the water at an acute angle, and started to spin…..
His mates pissed them selves…and told him if he didn’t chill out he would be left behind for ‘those big aussie sharks”
He was very meak as well after his mate landed a nice little 500Lb+ Blue just off Cape Cleveland on the way back in shallow water

Great Story - Salmo

Sun, 2005-08-28 15:32

What comes around certainly goes around and who else better to tell you than your mates and then to be rubbed in by the deckies. Question the boats captain and you either get the fish of the day or sweet f.a.

We had it once were the 3 guys we were out with lead a mutiny as to the captain's positioning and spot choice and the continuous whiting bites. So after a couple of hours of pointy questions the captain relieved command and stated that 'if you guys are so special, lets see what you can do.' Well as it always seems to happen, a quick 500 meter trip to no-mans land and ignoring the echo, here we go - lets try here. 5 minutes later there's a 5 kg dhuie and 2 big king george on board and a red faced captain who happened to miss out on all the bites from a completely random spot. Lets just say the captain wasn't a happy chappy and the day out ended not long after.

Every body should realise that if a skipper pick you for a prick in the first 5 minutes, your success for the day is pretty well doomed before you start.

Common comment would be "gee mate bad luck you got no fish, the blokes yesterday got heaps, must have been the aftershave you had on"

Re-Charters

Fri, 2005-09-02 13:26

Certainly had that feeling before.. Best was out of Mindarie on an old crayboat, guy had a few of his mates on, couldn't stop getting bites and the lumps were just awesome..

Went out a week later from Hillaries and the captain stunk of booze and looked so hungover, 1 school shark taken for the day and he couldn't give a rats, hardly any bites.. Best was when he set the drift wrong and 8 lines became 1 in less than 5 minutes.. Took them 25 mins to fix and didn't have enough rods to replace all the ones that got worked.

Next time we went out with him the boss's wife went out as well.. What do you know, 1 monster q.snapper, 1 big pinky, 2 sambos, a couple of small harlequin and dhufish galore, with not one stuffup and him changing rigs and taking fish off.. Amazing the difference in service and performance when it comes to the captains state of mind.
