PB 3 Mile Pink Snapper
As per my previous posts we have been continuing to fish 3 Mile targeting pinkies, and any other by-catch available. We entered the MAAC Club monthly competition yesterday and were lucky enough to pick up a 8.48kg (18.7lb) pinkie off the 3 Mile – weighed in on certified scales. It was certainly nice to get a fish like this in an actual competition and it paid well with the jackpot (nominated species with a weight over 8kg – fishing shop voucher), fish of the month (pinkies were the nominated fish for May – lovely Victorinox filleting knife) and the species prize (Club voucher). Also got a 1.09kg (2.4lb) skippy on the pinkie rig and that won a species award as well. I must say that I put it down to pure arse rather than anything else.
Although we have been fishing for pinkies at dawn and dusk, and getting a few, this one took the bait at 11am in the middle of a rain shower. Might have to rethink strategy and target them during the day as well, just after the big swells. We probably wouldn’t have been out there given the conditions and the time if it wasn’t for the competition. Got to be lucky sometimes I guess.

All Used
One of the local MAAC legends showed me how to best fillet a big pink, the fisheries officers were at the weigh in so they got all the data, the wings were gladly donated to a member that has helped me over the past few months and the head was similary given to a Club member that would use it. I was happy to see minimal wasteage of the big old girl.

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

nice work mate - nothing
nice work mate - nothing better than catching a big fish except getting given prizes for doing it!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
