Patenoster Rig for squid jigs

Gday Fellas,

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are about using pastenoster rigs with squid jigs. I was down at south mole the other day, using a deep diving squid jig which gave me moderate success with a few hook ups but after i snagged it on some rope and lost it, which dampened the day a bit, I had a chat with another bloke near me and he said that from time to time he uses a pasternoster rig with his squid jigs. Never really heard of this method before but he said that its good as it gets the jig down a bit quicker and ya can set the height of the jig off the rig so it just sits off the bottom.

I was often wondering

If it would be worthwhile attaching a squid jig to the top swivel of your bottom bashing bait paternoster rig.

only because of the number of cuttlefish you can sometimes encounter out deep and they can be some real thumpers. I have managed to get the odd one here or there on some snelled hooks however I reckon a squid jig as part of the paternoster would be dynamite.

thoughts?

People use this rig regularly in Victoria and they catch plenty of squid...... The jig is usually on a fairly long dropper

Works a treat. Used it while drifting our whiting grounds in comet bay in around 15m. You know that your jig is in the zone as you keep contact with the bottom with the sinker. I used a longer than normal dropper to the jig and a longer length to the sinker also to make it more look more natural. Just put the rod in the holder and it will look after itself.
