yamaha quality
Be very careful with the 200hp plus motors, major problems around the 500 hour mark, plenty of unhappy owners on the hull truth internet site.

What sort of dollars to
What sort of dollars to replace seals?? I am keeping an eye on my 75hp suspecting the same thing... last couple of gear oil changes have been milky. Suspect a cross threaded grub screw and worn o rings have been the cause. Next time it happens will mean a nechanic to check the seals
Fish! HARD!

Just change the input shaft
Just change the input shaft seals yourself first, under the waterpump and only cost $20 or so on most.
best to get genuine though as your standard off the shelf lip seal doesnt have an SS spring, or swap the spring for an o-ring

I've read the hull truth
I've read the hull truth threads about every motor. Don't forget that it is a predominantly American forum so if 1% of Yamaha purchasers have issues, it will probably amount to 500 post on how fucked they are. I've got 1400 hours on my 2007, 250hp yammy outboard and have not had an issue.
Ive had 5 yammy's on different types of boats and couldn't fault any of them.
Just my experience with yammy's - others may not speak as highly.

Thehulltruth is american
Thehulltruth is american bullshit. Yes they hate Yammies unless there HDPI
This i have heard from locals in the industry that the big block have had problems(I accept there is always some problems but not what you want to hear), and i will be going Suzuki because of this ( and the fact they are cheaper and more econimical)
I love Yamaha's and i always thought thats what would be on my next boat. Been on many boats with Yammies doing stupid hours like you and they are the brilliant and yes unfaultable.
There always people that are going to hate haha

Massive amount of members
Massive amount of members with a massive range of motors. Will always be lovers and detractors and those that have problems will be the first to make noise about it.
Funnily enough in 20 odd years of owning boats the only catestrophic failure I've ever had was on a yammy.
Suzuki still have some issues that are well published but I think most modern motors are pretty good these days.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
