No one gets anything good at the mole.

As usual I turn up at the mole to see the action, but not get any. I was going to get up at 5am, but decided to sleep in till 5:20am. Dammit, it always happens like this.
A school of them was just passing through about 6:05 - 6:15, there were three hookups but only one landed. My scales are only marked to 12kg, and they pulled them out about a third as much again, so perhaps 18kg, this was after it had spent a few hours on the rocks and had been bled as well!
Apart from that fish, all I saw landed was a few herring, a squid and I jagged a few pathetic garfish. I was probably there 6am till about 11 perhaps.

No no, thats not me or my fish. Like I said, I turned up just to see the school go past. No idea if it was a bait or lure. Next time Im going to completely rig up and have the reel on before I go to sleep dammit.

Yes, as far as gear goes, the more you prepare the better I reckon.

Small Plastic Tube with a Popper Lid
A lot of lures (HBs etc) come in a tube )or you could sorce one) - put the lure (on the end of your line) inside the tub, carefully pop in the stopper lid (making sure you don't fray or otherwise damage the mono) - then a lacky or whatever round the rod. Just an idea. Watch out for low overheads too!

Very Impressive
When you consider their average size in metro waters is somewhere between 3 and 6 kilos, and usually at the Five Fathom Bank and beyond, yeah what a catch!
The general feeling is that the warmer water this year is responsible for the poor metro salmon season but SBT's prefer cooler water so I've given up trying to figure anything out
(unless it's a yellowfin but doesn't look like one)

He mentioned having 30lb
He mentioned having 30lb gear. Of the three hookups there is that fat tuna, one other thinks perhaps he didn't do his clip up properly and the other was a first-timer who had his drag screwed up to the max, not realising that would ping his line, he just thought it was to stop his spool popping off!

Impressive! gotta be the best metro land based capture posted so far.
I was fishing 6-8k off oceanreef today and just as wed packed up and thrown all the bait over board, tuna that size start jumping out of the water all around us and right near the boat eating the mass of dead mulies wed just thrown in.... couldnt beleive it... if theyd come by 10 minutes earlier probably wouldve hooked one. By the time id tied on a gold twisty they were gone.
