A beautiful day

What a beautiful day. If you were in Perth and you have a boat, I guess you went out to sea today. Well that is what is seemed like this morning.
I pottered off down to Hillarys to have an early morning fish at the lighthouse.
Arrived about half an hour before dawn and set myself up. It was all quiet and then the armada started coming out of the harbour. I fish that spot most Sunday mornings and I have never seen as many boats come out of there as I did today.
There will little dinghys with old fishos going solo, new dinghys with four or five young blokes (all wearing beanies), an old clinker manned by a pair of cap wearing old anglers, flash big cruisers, dozens of fishing boats, yachts, kayakers, boats full of scuba divers, guys on jet skis with their babes hanging onto their shoulders and and a pair of fishing rods in holders, surf club boats, rescue boats, charter boats - you name it - it went out of the harbour today.
And no wonder. What a beautiful morning. It must have been fantastic out on the ocean.
Hope all of those who did venture out had a fishing day to match the conditions.
Myself, I had a handy morning. Kept four nice skippy, saw some dolphins, a massive stingray and a sizeable school of mullet.
What a beautiful day.

Life is great in WA

I have to agree with you Colin it looked like a magic day out there on that ocean. We went for a drive along the coast from Rockingham to North Beach in the arvo.. Ocean was like a mill pond. We stopped at North Mole and watched for a while. Boats everywhere. Glad to hear you caught a feed. My Brother had our Dingy out fishing Garden Island. Yet to hear what he caught.

Sounds like a lovelly Day Colin - Comprehensive

Mon, 2008-05-19 07:45

Sounds like a lovelly day Colin and a very comprehensive description of vessel types too I might add Laughing. The mention of the clinker and caps brought memmories of my (late) father. Brought up through the British navy in WWII, then the Merchant marines, and latter the WA state shipping service, he was very much the traditionalist. His succession of boats where either klinkers or bond wood jobs. I reckon 1 14' klinker had more displacement than an oil tanker Surprised. At least it felt that way every time we winched it onto the trailer. Oh, and just to complete the picture, he had a penchant for seagul outboards! Laughing

Great old boats Colin

And those blokes have probably had some fantastic times in theirs. They certainly seemed like a happy bunch.
I think the most amazing site was the jet skiiers with their jetski bunnies on the back - with double rod holders near the exhaust. I don't know how they land a big fish - whether the bunnies have to hop off or something and swim back.

Yeah, Good but Heavy

Mon, 2008-05-19 08:25

Yeah Colin they are good boats, but very heavy. As for the Jet Ski's - could get a bit untide if they had a sambo double hook up! Tongue out

Bunnies - HOP off   - hahahahahahaha!!!!

Would have been a lovely day for it Shorty

I know I was wishing I had a kayak yesterday. I could have paddled out to some of the reefs close to Hillarys with ease.
