Looking at it on windy I think it's pretty optimistic. Big call travelling that far cross country without running out of puff. I'd like to see it travel a bit higher as a low and give the daly catchment a good soak. They need a good wet and will help the classic and nationals out a bit.
Tropical Cyclone Outlook for the Northern Region, including the Gulf of Carpentaria
Issued at 2:15 pm CST on Thursday 20 February 2020 for the period until midnight CST Sunday 23 February 2020.
Existing Cyclones in the Northern Region:

Potential Cyclones:
A broad area of low pressure lies over the northern Gulf of Carpentaria as a monsoon trough develops. A tropical low is likely to form within the monsoon trough overnight tonight or on Friday as a westerly surge develops through the Arafura Sea. During the weekend, the tropical low is expected to develop quickly with an increasing risk of tropical cyclone formation in the Gulf of Carpentaria from later on Saturday or early Sunday. Initial movement of the tropical low will likely be slow and erratic before moving in a general south to southwest direction towards southwestern parts of the Gulf of Carpentaria later in the weekend.
Likelihood of a tropical cyclone in the Northern Region on:
This one in Qld is brewing, we've left Burketown where we've been hunkered down for a week, but they're forecasting some winds for here. Currently parked up at the Gulfland caravan park in Normanton. Good protection from the wind here.
Those on the Gascoyne river will be watching it very carefully as the river is running at about 2 plus metres from Cyclone Damian and any more heavy rainfall inland will raise the levels very quickly.
Looks like I might be driving down to clean up a couple of trees that copped a flogging. Price I got pre cyclone was f#$king rude to say the least, probably double now.
Has done us a favour by dumping a shitload of rain on the Fitzroy river catchment on it's way over and on its way back. should get the flush out it needed.
Pretty well everything is flowing. good year to do the Gibb River Road for anyone that is keen. Everything will be pumping through there for a fair while.
gillyL the roads vary from year to year depending on rainfall , I suspect with the amount of rain through the gibb this year it will be a late start to access places like Mitchel Plateau but will be worth the wait, next year could be totally different.
