hi mate the first combo sounds good , but for the lighter combo i think you should look at a smaller reel like a 5000 stradiic fj anmd a slightly longer rod like a starlo stick 902 shorespin (9 foot) id go 30/40lb braid on the big combo and 15/20lb on the lighter combo , see the boys at bluewater morley and they will sort it out for you.   cheers

Wed, 2012-06-06 12:43

I just got the 7"2' terez 15-30lb and matched it with a 5000 rarenium ci4. Beautiful combo. Enough guts to hold their own with the bigger ones and enough finesse to flick lures and plastics around. Highly recommend :)

Wed, 2012-06-06 16:09

I had the starlo stick and used it lots, its a good stick.

Try the Fishing WA rods, they have a 9ft graphite rod that is made of better components that the starlo stick. I got mine from Oceanside tackle, it's a real good rod for the price I paid. It's matched to a 5000 Stradic and it cast lures and mulies like a dream.

I've got a Saragosa 8000 on a 13ft sensor surf that was purchased recently. On both occasion I took that combo out, I was spooled twice by something big. If you're just soaking baits a bigger reel with the extra line capacity would be of great help.

the 9ft starlo and 5000

Wed, 2012-06-06 16:50

the 9ft starlo and 5000 stradic is a match made in heaven on the bigger outfit id go away from the aerowave.. if you want a light outfit for 1-3oz go the rovex aureus 6812 i have this same rod with stradic fi 8000 its light and great casting, my mate has the FWA 11'6 4-6oz rod its a serious rod great quality but obviously suited for bigger baits and sinkers the rod in the middle which would be perfect and ofcourse more expensive would be the sensor surf 12ft i think there is someone on here selling one at the minute there are no better line of rods then the sensors for the beach i will be getting a 13ft shortly

Wed, 2012-06-06 17:07

i really like the Saragosa 8000 on a 13ft sensor surf and the line rating is far more than any of the shimano surf rods, i might got saragosa 10000 isntead on a 8000 though, i wasnt really considering getting any daiwa rods and matching with a shimano reel but the surf rods are just far more better from daiwa, i think i might have just changed my mind on my beach setup, thxs heaps guys

ok another question what pound line would i use for my two new setups, for the beach setup im gettin a saragosa 10000f matched with a daiwa sensor surf 12' (15-30lb), i usually use 30lb mono for my beach rods, and for my smaller rod stradic 5000 with a 9' starlo shore spin rod what pound line would i use for that?

saragosa

Wed, 2012-06-06 20:25

i use a saragosa 18000 matched to a home built custom 12 ft snyder one piece rod. it works extremely well for everything from tossing poppers and larger unweighted baits to set beach baits chsing the mullers. i have 350m of 30 lb braid on board. it may seam a little overkill to some but the idea is to give yourself every chance to catch fish not hook them only to loose them 10 min into the fight.

A daiwa windcast would match the sensor surf.

Do you have a budget on the smaller outfit?

Try the Daiwa Lateo Pirates, I was at blue water the other day and am very impressed by it. A stradic 5000 would be the bees knees loaded with 20lb braid. If you could up the budget, a Sustain 5000?

Im guessing that doesn't include line?

A FWA 9ft and Stradic 5000 would set you back about ~400

The sensor surf and a Thunnus CI4 12000 about ~550.

My mate just bought three Thunnus's (12000,4000.8000) and they feel real nice.

I have a 12ft daiwa sensor surf with a emblem pro reel running 30pd braid 350m with a 40pd leader. What a good combo and with a 4oz weight it gets distance to.

got a 12ft sensor 2-4oz with a 8000 stradic myself , good combo, if i had the choice i would buy the 13ft purely because it can handle the 6 oz weight plus the extra foot will make all the difference in bigger swell, sometimes the 4 oz just doesnt hold bottom on the bigger swells, which can be annoying.

I wouldnt worry so much about Matching a rod and reel

Fri, 2012-06-08 09:59

from the same company. I also believe ATM that Diawa have better rods, but Shimano have better reels (broad statement). I would stick with Stradic, and a CI4 if the budget allows. Then you have a good rod, and a excellent reel to match.

I have a range of Gosa's and rate them. If there is one problem with them, its line capacity, but not normally an issue from the Beach. Dont have a 10 000 but have 4,5,8 and 14. All off them are up to the task in karratha depending on what I am doing. But mostly fish lighter rather than heavier, especially for repeated casting. Use the 5 or 4 for that, 8's for BB and the 14000 as a skull dragger should the need arise with Noah's stealing fish.

i have a daiwa seajigger 305

Fri, 2012-06-08 14:33

i have a daiwa seajigger 305 matched to a daiwa seagate light 3500h awseome rod for biggger metals poppers etc, plenty of power to land bigger salmon etc. i prefer the seajigger over the sj. this is my go to set up when chasing salmon down around albany.

the seajigger would match a 5000 stradic perfectly. and a 5000 would land most fish ul ever hook shore based.

my latest combo though is a certate 3012h matched to a nitro magnumm butt. this is my metro lure/plastic based shore setup. and is just a joy to use.(i previously had a 7'6 lateo pirate and broke the tip under very light load)

my 3rd and final shore based out fit is a 13ft sensor surf matched to an emblem pro. this is my bait fishing outfit.

 i thought thr seas jigger

Fri, 2012-06-08 14:53

i thought thr seas jigger was only for ofshore and diddnt think the seagatelight would handle the bigger salmon, 7 kg or more, also is the sizing terms they use for the daiwa reels different to want they use for shimano cause for example they have  sradic 8000 but not many 8000 for daiwa reels?

the seajigger is a land based

Fri, 2012-06-08 15:03

the seajigger is a land based game rod for throwing lures.

the 3500 seagate light is at least as big as a 5000 stradic but with the benefit of being high speed and possibly slightly more line capacity. i dare say either reel will handle any salmon you will ever catch.

in general terms though the daiwa's are always bigger, a 3000 size daiwa will be as big as a 4000 shimano

Thanks heaps, i have my small lure rod all sorted now the seajigger and 3500 seagate light sounds like the perfect combo and will match together perfectly, both reel and rod are designed for casting lures and can handle the weight of a good size fish and the rod is also designed exclusively for Australian anglers.

Beach rod setup also sorted = saragosa 10000 with a sensor surf 13 foot

thxs for your help evereyone
