need a new reel
g'day fisher folk. i was on this site a long time ago but didn't post much, that long ago forgot username and password. have been watching the site for a couple of months and it seems to be getting bigger and better. well done to all involved. haven't fished in along time but going to give it a good shot. started to buy some new gear as well. i have got a twinpower 4000 fc matched up on a lemax black rose 8'{nice combo} also just bought a xzoga 10ft mastery. i've put the 4000 on it just seems a bit small not balanced right was thinking of the 5000 would that match ok? ithink the 5000 and 6000 have the same body but the 6 has a bigger spool and a bit heavier weight wise. will probably run 20 or 30 lb braid. i'm a bit of a shimano fan but open to options. was wondering what other folks would suggest to use on it. thanks in advance

Have a look at the Daiwa
Have a look at the Daiwa Saltist 4500, 5000 or 6000. If you jump on the net you can get them from America alot cheaper. Good reel for the price

I agree with mccollier
The saltists would be will within your budget. I think the 4500 would match up ok with the Mastery.
As a Shimano fan you should definately have a look at the Stradics.
I would also have a look at the Abu Soron reels. Pretty good value with a pretty good drag.

I have a Saltist 4500
on my 10ft mastery, but if you like Shimmy, with your budget I'd look at a 5000 or 6000 Twin Power.

I reckon the SW
is a bit over that budget? Last time I checked they were up around $800 - $900?
And I'd get the 5000 size anyway, the 8000 I reckon would be too big.

Agree with you there Huggy
The Mastery's are very light and I think an 8000 would overballance the outfit.

Had a stradic 6000 for a few
Had a stradic 6000 for a few years now and it's never missed a beat, caught plenty of trevs and macks up north and salmon down south, great reel for the cheaper price. If you got the money though might as well get something a bit more spiffy, get it while your missus is letting you ;)

I bought the 4500 from
I bought the 4500 from Oceanside a couple of months back and so far I've been really impressed with it. I don't reckon you can go wrong with an Opus for that sort of price range. It's already caught me a 12.5kg Dhuie and a few Baldies. Very smooth action.
I fish for the future - Cause I can't bloody catch anything!

I reckon the gaps too big between the shimano 4000/5000 size and the 6000/8000 size.
