Not a jag, that is

Not a jag, that is debatable, but still unusual

My strangest capture was an old tyre. From 20 meters of water behind Garden Island.
It had an occy in it so it wasn't a total loss.

Trolling action

Mon, 2007-11-26 11:14

A few years back we hooked what we thought was the mother of all bottom dwellers trolling the 'elbow' at Coral bay with CD18 rapalas. Fought this thing for a good twenty minutes and anticipation was high. Eventually we had to back right on top of the 'fish' to get back any line, but it was a constant battle as the 'fish' bulldogged around below us.

Eventually the 'horse' was pulled to the top, revealing itself to be a 14 mm broken off anchor rope that was still attached to the well stuck anchor. The rope moving in the swell/current certainly had us fooled (and no, we couldn't budge the anchor either).

Chicken sandwich

Mon, 2007-11-26 11:16

As a young kid, my brother and I used to fish for mullet in a local lagoon. Got sick of catching them one day and full on the lunch our mum made us, so decided to put half a chicken sandwich on the biggest hook we had. About a minute after it hit the water I hooked a huge (well it seemed huge when I was 7) eel. Mum wasn't impressed when we took it home and it put it in the laundry tub. Specially when it got out.
All the best Colin Hay

Shark

Mon, 2007-11-26 11:39

Fishing on a mates boat when i was younger between garden island and point peron.
I was fishing with a sml flick rod with 4kilo line and a sml long shank hook.
Something took the bait and ran for a bit, took about 20 mins to get up to the boat and it was a three and a half foot hammerhead shark. I wasnt expecting that! Made a great meal though!

Caught birds twice.  Once

Mon, 2007-11-26 18:55

Caught birds twice.  Once down in Esperance beach fishing, stupid thing flew into my line and got tangled and the other was a mutton bird out at the FADs.

Most memorable, a pomfret on a fly made on the spot out of bits of my t-shirt that I used my teeth to tear!

Either a pink snapper a mate caught off Point Samson or my recent capture of a juvenile Narrow Barred Spanish Mackerel caught in a pilbara creek.

i still think your a smart ass jay, i caught a turtle off the bottom on the dampier pipeline on a prawn, i thought i had the mother of all trout, took me 45 minutes to get boatside and after half an hour or so of chasing.  It broke my heart to see it was only a turtle, released well, all on my 6kg creek rod.  Good fun!
