Moon and fishing

Hi

How does the moon affect fishing?
Are you better to fish during a full moon or the week before?

Thanks

That is an age old question Rod

I have tended to ignore it in the past, but my recent fishing experiences have suggested that fishing is quieter on the full moon. That view is shared by some other reports I have read, while others say it doesn't make too much difference. Others here will have different experiences I am sure.
The one thing I can say is that I caught my biggest mulloway on a full moon.

Fishing up to and including the full moon at that time is all good Rod. Especially the Saturday prior and the Tuesday following.

Fish the new moon if you can. If not, the full is OK. People say it puts the mackies down but I havn't found that personally.

The best place to get fish on the full moon in Exmouth is in the restaurant at the Potshot pub with a few nice cold beers. The Trout and Redemperor is extra special with the creamy garlic sauce!!! The new moon and the week or so after, are the best time to fish anywhere.

Personally I think Bethnic species feed more at night right on the full moon up around midnight especially in shallower water. Gamefish too if its a still night and rising moon.

Just either side of the full for many species can be good.

At the end of the day I go fishing when I can. Allsorts of things happen. If fish cant feed on a good tide or are held up by bad weather theyll feed another time soon.

Theres just so many variables that need to coincide with the moon to have one of those blinder sessions.

I have always found that a full moon or new moon is great for mulloway. Your bottom species tend to deliver a reduced catch but most other species are scarce. So if it was me I would plan to go either side of the full moon. Mind you in Exmouth a bad day is a good day in anyones language.

They are good times to be on your best spots for Dhuies and other bottom fish.
Seems to coincide with a good bite from my experience.

Certainly lead up to either

Thu, 2008-06-26 08:53

For Dhuies I always find a morning high tide on the lead up is a pretty much guaranteed. ALso the bite just shuts down after tide turn so pretty important too be where you want for the alst two hours of run up.

Not sure about up north, I have tried a bit of everything with nothing conlusive. Only thing I have found is on the bigger tides you tend to get a lot of shitty green water on the run out which shuts off the pelagics like a light switch. At least around Exxy and Onlsow.
