26m sounds rather deep, but

26m sounds rather deep, but could have a shipping channel on the inside. North side of north mole is somewhere around 5m deep or so (been diving there, but guessing the depth)

13m

is about it going by my plotter, but in close to the rocks it's average is 4 to 5m, there's a shipping channel that's dredged on the inside.

What side was it caught

Sat, 2008-07-19 20:49

What side was it caught on?

Big pinks will come into 5m of water looking for tucker washed in off the rocks mate, and from what I know most people prefer to fish the north (shallow) side of the wall for pinks in a big blow.

Over east it's not uncommon to get big pinks on SP in 5 to 8m of water, so dont see why it wouldnt be the same here except for the seasons being different to a degree.

Not for shore on depth

Sat, 2008-07-19 20:49

Not for shore on depth caught bit they do come in close after a big blow to get the crabs and molloscs that have been washed off the rocks. All the other nutrients that also gets washed off brings the bait fish in which also brings mr pinkie closer. the few ive got from there off the stones nailed live baits not too far from the rocks.

Sat, 2008-07-19 20:49

narh mate...the snappers come in to feed on the rock crabs that gets wash off the rocks by big swells...but the weather today was perfect for snapper..just didnt land 1..it was taken on slimy mackeral..i guess its a good bait as all the people next to him was doing the same thing..but they got nothing...he didnt get anything until he switch his bait to slimy mackerel..might have to go look for some for the next storm...spess ,u could join in if ya wanna..

Sat, 2008-07-19 20:52

and 1 thing i dont get is..how the snappers eat the whole live fish or big baits like herring, etc as it has such a small mouth..although i've seen people landing them on whole fish.. = ]

Well 3 posts saying the same thing..........i suppose thats good enough for all to get some needed info from the moles. Once youve caught a pink from there you want to get more.one addiction thats worth having. Great fun.

Sat, 2008-07-19 21:00

Whole small squid on snelled hooks would be my bait of choice, then maybe big  tuna or blue mackrel fillet.

Think big!

would agree with al with the tuna and the mackrel as their oily and smelly which attracts huge predators from what i read from..

Squid all the way my #1

Mon, 2008-07-21 19:45

Squid all the way my #1 top bait by far, And works excellent on snelled one through the head and one through the rear or side. Doesnt come off too easy either so your more likely to get a 2nd hit or 3rd.

Little slimy macks are awesome if u can catch them, and yellowtail is good aswell.

tommo if yuove got a bigger

Tue, 2008-07-22 19:38

tommo if yuove got a bigger set up, and your fishing at hillarys even, take it with you and rig it up and set it out. before my dads rod for his alvey broke, i used to take it with me all the time to hillarys and i usually caught something on it. whole yellowatil, herring, slimy macks etc always work. the fresher the better. mullet skin is a bit tough so its not bad to use either.
