Med spin combo
Submitted by jay_burgess on Mon, 2007-09-10 18:01
In desperate need of a spin combo to fish 20/30lb. Will be used mainly for livebaiting for barra and perhaps a bit of bluewater work in the off season. Thinking of a Sustain/Twinpower 4000. My question is will these handle 30lb or would they be better suited to 20lb? Which rod would suit nicely? Thinking of a Starlo Stix Snapper Spin (5-8kg).

20lb
I think youll find the reels are better suited to 20lb Jay.
I gave my Certate 4000 its maiden run on the sambos sunday and I think that size reel is suited to 20lb much better than 30lb. You would get a way with it for a while but in the end I think it will put too much pressure on the reel.
Im pretty sure Honsu downgraded his Certate from 30lb to 20lb as well.

team daiwa saltwater
hi jay
check out the team daiwa saltwater rods if you get an opportunity.. got one on saturday... full chrome SiC and quite a stiff blank for their line rating.. bit more pricey but they look the sh1t... hard foam split grips and a silver blank... they 701HFS might suit what you're after
Here fishy fishy....

IMO i reckon the daiwas have
IMO i reckon the daiwas have a smoother and stronger drag than the shimanos!
look at the certates and the hd certate customs...like a mini saltiga those things, bloody strong.
dont get me wrong though the shimanos are still good, with spare spools etc.. they aren't bad value for money.
as for rods...starlos range is good with sic guides, and their cheap aswell, other good range are the gloomis pro blue series, team daiwa tierra rods (cheaper range) arnt bad...theres quite a few to choose from
cheers

certate 3500 hd, or stella
certate 3500 hd, or stella 6000/TP 6000 all great reels.
Rods - tcurve 5-10 bluewater spin is nice, i have a dorado 70 with certate hd and it is a brilliant outfit with 20lb but a bit pricey. Had a ball on tuna up to 30lb with it in ONslow though and it would be great on big Barra and threadies the drag is great on the certate

Certate is a bit more than I
Certate is a bit more than I wanna spend right now so I'll probably go with a Twinpower 4000.

Twinpower
Jay - Mako Magic runs a 4000 twinpower with 20lb braid and he seems pretty happy with it so far.
Should be good for what you want to use it for.

Twinpower or Certate 4000??
Twinpower or Certate 4000?? depends on how much line you need....Certate holds more line but Twinpower is lighter and quicker reel. Otherwise you could check out the new Stradic and Sustain with all new technologies similar to the new Stella, TD Tierra or Capricorn 4500J might be another options...
